Today, we celebrate International Women’s Day and commemorate the 15,000 strikers who inspired it, taking to the streets of New York in 1908 and protesting exploitation and demanding equal rights. It’s a day to celebrate the achievements of and acknowledge the compounded challenges faced by women and join voices with people around the world demanding equal rights.

Happy International Women’s Day to all women out there, whose strength, resilience and determination have inspired and forged progress towards social change and gender equality. And thank you to the wonderful women who make up 57% of our workforce; your work and contributions have helped build our organisation into the success it is today. Let’s continue to uplift each other, break down barriers, and strive for equality in all areas of life.

"First of its kind" technology arrives in Australia. It’s set to revolutionise public health, enhancing resilience to pandemic and biological threats.

The primary approach to assessing cleanliness is visual inspection, but pathogens have been known to remain on surfaces, even after typical cleaning procedures. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, in which perceived cleanliness and the measure of actual cleanliness are paramount, visual assessments fall woefully short.

So, how do we know if something is actually clean? How can you measure and document cleanliness? Are there economically viable solutions for organisations to ensure sanitation and keep people safe?

This is where SafetySpect comes in. SafetySpect’s technology provides real-time and reliable detection of harmful contaminants and pathogens at scale and at a fraction of the cost of legacy technologies.

The technology works across multiple industries. For example, foodborne illness costs Australia almost AUD $2.5 billion annually, according to updated estimates by the Australia National University. In just this one industry application, the technology has the potential to deliver significant impact for both consumers and businesses.

In 2023, Pickwick Group and SafetySpect have joined forces to bring this technology to the Australia and New Zealand markets.

While surfaces may give the appearance of cleanliness, pathogens invisible to the naked eye may still be present. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, in which perceived cleanliness and the measure of actual cleanliness are paramount, visual assessments fall woefully short.

Recently Pickwick Group, and our joint venture Pickwick 1A, celebrated the arrival of all our Board Members and Senior Leadership team from across the country, for a week of strategic planning.

We started the week with a Welcome to Country by Steven Coghill, Pickwick 1A Director and Traditional Owner from the Yuggerah people. This was followed by a traditional smoking ceremony and dancing by the Nunuckle Kunjiel Dancers, led by Elder Raymond Walker from the Minjerribah people.

For us, the smoking ceremony signaled a new future for Pickwick Group and Pickwick 1A as we embark on an exciting journey of values-led and customer-centric business transformation. We thank Aunty Christine Barney (Chair of Pickwick 1A) and Inbamanay Solomon (Chair of the Pickwick Group) for reminding us of the importance of unity, community, inclusion and diversity, embracing change, and achieving shared goals to deliver a bright and promising future for all.

Together we work towards providing a stable and healthy future to our Indigenous communities through employment opportunities nationwide.
