Update on Mr Fisher, our elderly client who nearly died. He's now walking short distances unaided - no frame needed. By next week he'll probably be back outside pushing the wheelbarrow around. Just wonderful to see!

Well we went back to clean the dear old client's house today whose family had previously thought he would be dead and buried by now. Pleased to say he was looking really well and getting around efficently as well. I prepared myself in case he didn't look that good, but was so pleasantly surprised to see him so well. When his daughter contacted me 2 weeks ago she said that they'll just have us once a fortnight, she & the carers can do the off week. When we were leaving I went and said goodbye to him. "Have they paid you?" He said, "No.. but I'll find Mary". He said "OK we need to sort out days, when you are coming next". I told him 2 weeks. "I want you to come weekly can you work it out please? I go to town on Mondays & Wednesdays so we need to work around that". I was gobsmacked! He fully intends on going into the City 2 days a week, this dear old man who should have the maggots eating away at him. Now we have no vacancies at all. We have 5 on Fridays and that's heaps by the end of the week. But guess what we decided? Yes of course we can fit him in weekly - on a Friday. As his daughter said, we are so important to his recovery. We are part of his previous routine and it is vital that he returns to his routine as soon as possible. They've made minor changes to his home - nothing major or terribly expensive. Put a ramp from the verandah into the front porch etc. removed all the mats so that he can use his "pushy" thing, changed the bathroom door so it opens outwards not inwards. All minor stuff that has enabled him to stay in his own home. When we left he was sitting in his bedroom - it's a very large room, in his chair by the window overlooking his beautiful garden with a cozy heater going and reading a book. How peaceful and happy he was. I walked out of there with such a nice warm fuzzy feeling. Days like this make me very proud that we do the job we do. We are more than just Cleaners.

The other week I was talking about how our old clients love us visiting and that we are more than "just cleaners". Well our oldest client, a dear man who is 91 had a stroke about 5 weeks ago and wasn't supposed to survive longer than the week. In fact they thought he'd only just make it to see his daughter come in from WA. They even started organising the funeral director. Anyway, he did survive and constantly improved. But his family never thought he'd make it home again, instead looking at Nursing Homes for him. Well he's home but with 24 hour care. Again the family didn't think we needed to come anymore because the Daughter would do all the cleaning and the carers should do some of it as well. Dear Mr Fisher wasn't home 4 hours before he asked where Rachel & Peter were and when we were coming next. So the family has had to ring us because he wants his cleaners back. You see we are part of his routine, he knows we come every week, he knows he's got to have the money ready, he's got to have the papers put out, rooms tidied etc. He always asks about our family, the dam etc. His daughter told me today that she had no idea how really important we are to his being able to stay in his own home. I have to say I was really moved by that. We've been cleaning for him now for 8 or more years and we were missing going to his home and seeing him pottering around. He was shifting barrow loads of wood last time we saw him and we were shocked that only 2 days later he was nearly dead. He told me only last year that he wanted to make it to 2015 so he could go to the Anzac Day 100th celebration. His father landed on the beach in Gallipoli in 1915 and he was most adamant that he wanted to be around for the 100th anniversary. I'm hoping that the dear old fellow is. Just goes to show what willpower and strength of mind can do eh?

Eco Clean would like to welcome Elizabeth Anne John . Elizabeth will be taking over the bookkeeping side of things. Seems now we are so busy someone doesn't have the time to do this "wonderful" aspect of the business. We hope you enjoy your time with us.
