📣 Our community is so kind to 🐍 and alerting each other to spotting them in public places. Love it.

Remember to keep your doors closed through the hot days (and seal up those gaps)- snakes are seeking cool places to regulate their temperature now, and your air-conditioning is perfect.

If you need a snake removed from your home or property safely and humanely between 30 December and 19 January please call Michael Whipps 0408 123 801 or Gibbo 0413 378 809 (Jarrod is unavailable). Keep watching the visitor until they arrive.

Cheers and keep caring for all of our wildlife 😃

Warm weather can also bring out the speedy browns for some daytime skink snacks while seeking out small mammals.

Did you know our Ectothermic locals not only need the sun to warm up to aid digestion, but they also need holes in the ground, water or air-conditioning to cool down? They cannot regulate their own body temperature so need it provided externally.
Keep your doors closed on hot days always, and if you’re running the air-conditioning hard and cool air can leak out your doors be aware of any snakes on the front step enjoying said cool air. They’re just chilling out and have no interest in you!

It’s not always warm and sunny when relocating slithery residents!
These two beautiful co-nesting Red Bellied Black Snakes decided that sunning in a vege garden was a good place to live.
Food (mice and rats in the compost heap, and frogs all
Round) shelter (inside the hollow log) and plentiful water is the perfect conditions for residency.

Caught together and released together. Happy ending, allowed for by another property owner being kind to snakes.

Snakes Awake, a great children’s picture story book and very apt for this weekend.

Our local slithering friends have been moving around a lot of late, seeking mates and sunshine. Be aware, look around, wear long pants when in your yard or bushwalking and when you don’t have clear vision of your path and you’ll be taking appropriate precautions.

Most importantly be kind to snakes and enjoy being in the outdoors this spring.

If you have any that need safe removal from your home or property please keep watching it and call Kiewa Snake Catcher Jarrod or Whipps

We’re relocating a mixture of Eastern browns, Red Bellied Blacks and some Copperheads.

Ps- after catching a juvenile Lowland Copperhead in my own house yard just now can I invoice my wife? 😆

Pics- an Eastern Brown that had something to say to me on release (I had caught him with a mate 😜) and a beautiful big healthy Red Bellied Black being released in the video with best wishes.

Annual reminder to be “snake ready” for the spring breeding season of our venomous friends snake.
1. Check your snake first aid kit and update it if required. Car and home (and bike?)
2. Clean up around your home - while often a snake visitor is unavoidable, inviting snakes to live in the direct space abutting your house by leaving plenty of shelter for them is not what you want.

For the best compression bandage grab a SMART bandage from our local pharmacy or online https://survivalfirstaidkits.net.au/products/smart-snake-bandage?srsltid=AfmBOor_GCuR1HqxTxrYoVYuwXeD1xakkEr5tZ-SF0salQVZ4w40jWga

3. Save your local snake catchers phone number in your phone twice. Once with their name, the second time as snake catcher.

4. Be kind to snakes. Don’t approach them, don’t try and harm them or relocate themselves and don’t encourage mice and rats to live where you live.

4. For a great educational offering on what to do when you see a snake, how to be snake aware in the bush, and applying a compression bandage check out Jarrod’s book “ Snakes Awake”, https://fordstreetpublishing.com/book/snakes-awake/

The SMART Bandage™ is a high quality compression bandage that prepares you for the wilderness. Best used for snake & funnel-web bites, sprains or wounds.
