Fire ants have been found in Sydney's inner west.

Authorities believe they arrived via a shipping container and are working to ensure they don't become established.

A flight was recently grounded after some very unwelcome passengers came aboard... Safe to say they're not the kind of frequent flyer anyone wants...

If you've been travelling recently, here's what to look out for:

🔍 Signs: small reddish-brown bugs about the size of an apple seed, tiny rust-coloured spots on sheets or luggage lining, and bites that show up in a line or cluster rather than scattered.

🧳 Luggage: unpack outside or in the garage, not on your bed or carpet. Vacuum every seam and pocket, then bin the vacuum bag outside straight away.

👕 Clothes: wash everything, even what you didn’t wear, on the hottest setting your fabric allows. Then tumble dry on high for at least 30 minutes. Heat is what kills them; a cold wash won’t cut it.
