Most people think once a car is washed, it’s ready for ceramic coating.
It’s not.
Even after a thorough wash, your paint is still holding onto bonded contaminants — brake dust, industrial fallout, tar, overspray, and microscopic debris you can’t even see.
If you apply ceramic coating over that, you’re not bonding to clean paint… you’re sealing contamination underneath it.
That means:
• Weaker bonding
• Reduced durability
• Less gloss
• Shorter lifespan
A clay bar treatment removes those embedded contaminants and leaves the surface completely smooth. That smooth, decontaminated clear coat is what allows the ceramic coating to properly bond and perform the way it’s designed to.
Skipping this step might save time — but it compromises the result.
At JLD Detailing, we don’t cut corners in prep work, because prep is what determines how long your coating actually lasts.
Proper preparation = Proper protection.
If you’re investing in ceramic coating, make sure it’s done right.
