“As I start to wind down after my 32 hours awake, and a night shift fighting the Tooperang fire, a little reflection creeps in.
We watched the sun come up and our eyes started stinging from exhaustion, but we bounced off each other to keep our minds sharp. When I crossed the doorway at home I was met by rested children, happy to see their Mummy because they still worry about her.
Behind most firefighters, is a support that allows us to do what we do and without them, we couldn’t fight these fires/accidents. For me, it’s my Mum.
Fires don’t time themselves around whether you have your kids or not. Yesterday I called Mum asking if she could help out as we urgently needed night shift personnel. She drove all the way from the Barossa (Region 2) after work to help. Without her, there’s no way I could’ve done my bit for our own Region.
Firefighting is an effort put in by everyone. So thank you Mum, for helping our community.
