Rodent season is upon us. As the weather cools, rodents seek out warm shelter including in roof voids. This is a photo of an install today at Balcolyn where we identified a Norway rat issue; we then installed two snap trap tunnel stations.

Snap traps are a better method then traditional baiting as we can remove any dead bodies without running the risk of them ending up in an area where they can’t be retrieved; causing more issues like a bad smell, maggots etc.

All our rodent jobbings come with a follow up visit included in the initial cost. We will also do a complete site survey and identify any potential entry points that require sealing to prevent future issues.

Termite management system installed this week at Teralba. This one had a few curveballs, a rear deck with only 250mm clearance underneath and a concrete footing over 500mm deep in one section.

We installed stainless steel inspection ports with removable covers on the deck to easily access the stations underneath. This saves time during routine servicing, we can access the stations without having to remove boards.

Surveyor flags mark the station locations on one side as the owner may look to install some landscaping in the future.

Termite management system install today at Fishing Point. The previous owners of this home had active termites on two seperate occasions. Due to the structure and extensions completed in the last 12 months by the new owners, the best way forward was an in-ground baiting system rather than a traditional chemical treatment.

This gives the client flexibility to continue with any future landscaping or extensions without compromising the treatment. We can simply remove and reinstall the stations as required.

We can also provide underground scanning for water, power and gas before we drill and install to mitigate any risk of drilling though an essential service. All our installs come with all relevant documentation including a certificate of installation.

I have been busy with termite inspections and treatments over the last 14 days. No structure including steel framed homes are immune from termite ingress.

Annual inspections are highly recommended, more frequently in high pressure areas. A small expense now could prevent a costly repair bill in the future.

P.S If you do find active termites, firstly don’t panic. If you have disturbed any workings (floor skirting, window frame, door architrave etc) simply tape over the affected area and leave alone until the area can be properly inspected.

Rodents are on the move at the moment. Client was advised by another pest company that they had a possum issue. We installed our camera to monitor for a week and ascertained it was in fact a rodent issue, not a possum.

Early start this morning removing this possum from the roof void of a commercial premises. Please ensure if you hear noises in your roof void at home, try and ascertain that it isn’t a possum before being tempted to throw loose rodent bait blocks up there.

Possums will feed on rodenticide and if consume enough, will die. You do require a permit to trap and release possums in NSW, penalties do apply if caught.

If deciding to bait yourself for rodents (which I don’t advise), ensure you always use a lockable, tamperproof bait station to reduce the possibility of a non target animal coming in contact.

As is the case with rodents, proofing is the key to managing possums long term. This with the addition of possum nesting boxes will reduce the chance of a possum taking up residence in your home or business.

** Always use a licenced, competent pest controller for any pest issues, especially termites.
