🏆 Exciting news — Jets Pest Control has been named a finalist in the 2026 AEPMA Pest Manager of the Year Awards for the Kylee Enwright Micro Business Award!

It is an honour to be recognised alongside some outstanding businesses in the industry. Congratulations to fellow finalists Pestlinc, Active Termite Solutions, and Mad Ant. Very well deserved by all involved. 👏

We also want to acknowledge the person behind this award, Kylee Enwright. While we did not have the privilege of knowing Kylee personally, like many in this industry we followed her journey through social media and saw firsthand the incredible love, respect, and support the pest management community had for her. Kylee and her husband contributed so much to both AEPMA and the wider industry, and it is clear her legacy continues to have a meaningful impact. This award in her name is a beautiful tribute, and we are humbled to be associated with it. 💚

This recognition reflects the incredible support we receive from our clients across Ipswich and Brisbane every day. Thank you for trusting Jets Pest Control with your homes and businesses. ❤️

To our family and team, this recognition belongs to you as well. Every early start, every job completed properly, and every client interaction matters. You are the reason Jets Pest Control continues to grow.

We will be attending the FOAPMA Pest Summit in Auckland when the winners are announced, and we look forward to seeing many familiar faces there.

See you in Auckland! ✈️🇳🇿

Backyard gladiators: spotted right here in Ipswich** 🐜⚔️🪵

Got down in the dirt this week and managed to capture this ripper of a close-up — and what a stoush it is.

That golden-headed warrior on the right? A termite soldier. Check out that armoured head capsule and those wicked curved mandibles — purpose-built weapons. He's locked in combat with one of his colony's oldest enemies: an ant.

Ants and termites have been at war for millions of years. When ants breach a termite gallery, soldiers like this one rush to the front line, jam themselves into tunnels, and fight to the death to buy time for the workers and queen. Pure sacrifice, every single time.

A full-on gladiator match — happening just beneath our feet.

As a licensed timber pest inspector, I see the aftermath of these battles all the time inside timber and wall cavities. Most homeowners have no idea this drama is unfolding around (and sometimes inside) their homes.

Seen any unusual bug activity around your place lately? Drop a pic in the comments — always keen to have a squiz. 👀

🚨 A family is now facing a massive repair bill. This is why.

A 10-year-old home. Second owners. A bathroom and adjoining bedrooms devastated by termites — and nobody saw it coming.

Heterotermes ferox gained entry through a single overlooked hole in the concrete slab. A grounding rod, installed beneath the bathtub, passed through the slab during construction. The pe*******on was never termite managed. The termites found it. The family didn't — not until the damage was already done.

No warning signs until termite activity and damage is visible. Just a hidden gap that should have been sealed a decade ago.

---

⚠️ What your perimeter treatment cannot protect against

Many South-East Queensland homes are slab-on-ground construction. It's worth understanding what an external perimeter treatment actually does — and where its limits are.

A perimeter treatment intercepts termites foraging from outside your home. It cannot protect against:

🔴 Unmanaged slab pe*******ons — any gap through the slab that wasn't treated during construction is a direct, concealed entry point.

🔴 Slab failures — cracked or broken concrete beneath your home gives termites a path that bypasses your perimeter treatment entirely.

🔴 Cold joints and construction joints — where two separate concrete pours meet, such as between a main slab and an infill slab, a joint exists beneath some older homes that is hidden, inaccessible, and a known termite entry point if left unprotected during construction.

All of these are concealed. You won't see them. Your pest inspector won't see them. The termites can find them.

---

🛡️ One layer of protection you can put in place today

Jets Pest Control installs Termidor HE by BASF around the external perimeter of your home — backed by BASF's $2 Million Assurance Warranty.

It won't fix a missed pe*******on or an unprotected joint inside your slab. But it is the strongest external defence available, and in South-East Queensland's termite pressure, every layer counts.

🚨 Behind the scenes with one of the best! 🔦🕷️

While you’re chilling in the lounge, Senior Tech Jason is crawling through tight, dark subfloors—right where termites love to hide.

Thanks to his sharp eye, we spotted active termite mudding along the joists. It’s a dirty job, but someone’s got to do it to keep your home safe!

That’s the Jets Pest Control difference: we go the extra mile (and the extra crawl) so nothing gets missed.

Termites don’t stop at stored items.

At this property, six timber doors were stacked against a garage wall. Even though the garage is steel, Coptotermes (subterranean termites) found the timber and destroyed the doors.

But it got worse.

We also located active termite workings concealed inside the garage walls behind insulation, with visual evidence up to around 4 metres above ground level. They have even started feeding on timber pegboards. This is a clear example of how termites can travel unseen within wall cavities and structural pathways, well above eye level, before anyone realises there’s a problem.

Coptotermes are widely regarded as Australia’s most economically damaging termite. This time the owner lost doors and garage fixtures, but the house is only metres away, and concealed activity like this can escalate quickly if it reaches structural timbers.

Takeaway

A “steel garage” does not mean “termite-proof” if there is timber inside, or if termites have access to concealed cavities.

Reduce your risk

✅ Store timber off the ground and away from walls
✅ Avoid stacking doors, furniture, or offcuts against internal walls
✅ Keep inspection zones clear and accessible
✅ Book regular termite inspections, especially if you store timber or have had activity nearby

If you want peace of mind, we can inspect and provide clear recommendations to reduce risk.

🏡 Buying a home in Ipswich? Don’t skip this.

Most people search “building and pest inspection” thinking it’s one service… but it’s actually two separate inspections under two different Australian Standards.

In this guide, we explain:
✅ What a Timber Pest Inspection (AS 4349.3) covers (and what it doesn’t)
✅ Why termites can be active but hidden in areas you can’t see
✅ The difference between warranties vs insurance (and why termite damage is usually not covered)
✅ Common risks we see in Ipswich homes
✅ How termite barriers work (the “moat” around your house) and what breaks it

If you’re buying, renovating, or you’ve never had a termite plan in place, this is worth a read.

🏚️ If you're from Ipswich, you’ll recognise this building.

Located near the Old Toowoomba Road roundabout in One Mile, this iconic structure stood for decades — but it’s now gone.

We inspected this site back in August 2024, and what we found inside confirmed what many suspected… severe termite damage.

This week, the building was finally demolished to make way for something new. And while it certainly had its charm and character, the termites had already done most of the demolition work long before the excavator rolled in.

Sometimes, the damage isn't just hidden — it’s structural, irreversible, and dangerous.

🛑 Termites don’t wait. If you own or manage a house, building or structure, especially in high-risk areas like Ipswich, don’t delay inspections.

🛠️ UPDATE – One Year On 🛠️

Today marks 12 months since we first inspected this home northwest of Ipswich — and what a journey it has been for the owners.

Since our initial visit:

✔️ We eradicated the termite colony
✔️ Installed a Termidor HE chemical termite management system
✔️ And the homeowners have undertaken extensive repairs and renovations

The most recent update from the builder?

- A six-figure repair bill.
- An estimated 95% of the structural timber had to be replaced.

The home looks beautiful again now — but it already was before termites invaded.

---

So how did termites get in?

During the original construction of the home, the toilet plumbing was incorrectly located. To fix this, the slab was cut to reposition the waste pipe — but the new pe*******on wasn’t protected with a termite barrier.

That single oversight gave termites direct access into the structure.

---

This is a clear reminder:

🛑 Even a small mistake during construction or renovation can lead to massive termite damage years later.
💰 Prevention is always cheaper than repair.

If you're building, renovating, or unsure about your current termite protection — now is the time to act.
