To our wonderful community,
We want to share some insight into why our gates are closed on certain days and why we can only provide assistance during public opening hours. While we would love to be accessible 24/7, our closed days are absolutely vital for the safety of our pets and volunteers, our compliance with the law and the daily operations of our refuge. Here is why:
1. Legal Requirements and Essential Paperwork / Availability of Trained Staff
- It is legally required that specific paperwork be completed to hold any pets at our facility, this can only be done by office staff.
- Health and aggression checks can only be performed by team members formally trained to do so, this can only be done by office staff.
- The members of staff trained in these areas are only available during our opening hours
2. Animal Safety, Rehabilitation and Welfare
- Vital Behavioural Testing can only be conducted when we are closed to the public, these tests are vital to our pets adoption journeys.
- Many pets in our care are terrified of strangers, closed days give them a much needed break from the noise and foot traffic.
- Certain pets cannot roam or exercise when the gates are open/with public walking around, closed days allow them to have the freedom to move safely
3. Operational Limits and Direct Care Duties
- There are significantly less staff/volunteers on closed days
- The team members that are on site during closed days have intensive, hands on animal care duties that require their full attention, they are unable to assist the public.
4. Facility Security and Trespassing
- When our gates are shut the refuge is entirely closed to the public, entering the property when the gates are closed means you are entering without permission which compromises the safety and security of our pets and puts you at risk.
We kindly ask that you please respect our hours so that we can continue providing the highest level of care in the safest manor to the pets that need us most. Thank you for your ongoing support, understanding and cooperation!
