This Tuesday 6th December we are planned to host another field day/field walk. At 9:15am -10:30am Mudgee LLS Senior Land Services Officer for Pastures Clare Edwards is running a field day at the Soil Probe in one of our Premier Digit based pasture paddocks. The morning will discuss the soil probe, the data it has collected on rainfall, soil moisture, and soil temperature and its effect on pasture growth, particularly tropical species.
If anyone would like to attend please book on the details on the attached flyer so they get the numbers to ensure the morning runs

As we did with the recent Watershed Landcare/ RCS facilitaed field walk I am happy to give some time afterwards with anyone who would like to ask questions with our experience with sub tropical pastures.

2022 has been relentlessly wet on our farm and unfortunately we didn't get the string of dry weather we needed to harvest seed. We have a very small supply of older seed and are still happy to answer questions and help people source seed from other suppliers.

The digit grass was a bit slower than normal to take off this year with a few late frosts. After some warmer weather and a good drop of rain it is doing its thing now.
We still have uncoated seed available in various grades. 2021 seed at $20/kg + Gst and 2020 seed at $10/kg + Gst

My 2020/2021 planting premier digit grass was a bit later than normal but still pretty confident about having the right conditions to get a good result.
Planted a week ago. 10mm of rain the night before planting then 40mm straight after finishing planting then another 16mm 5 days later.
I planted into oat stubble which is good for retaining the moisture for germination.
The stubble had been knocked down fairly well by sheep while getting some good grazing value out of the paddock in late December early January before being sprayed out ahead of planting. The aim was to plant dry but I was a day late, which shouldn't matter as long as seed didn't get buried too deep. 🤞Time will tell.

This years mix had a bit more diversity for the stock and the soil. Everything was mixed together and all sown through the fertiliser box.
In the mix was worm hit granular fertiliser, FCMP fert from tnn, uncoated premier digit grass seed, chickory, plantain, arrowleaf clover, perennial rye grass and a little bit of coated sub clover which makes it easy to see where the seed is getting placed.
Friday night before the rain I also boomsprayed out a home brew recipe to help stop nitrgen tie up during the break down of the rest of the oat stubble. In that mix was molasses, urea, seaweed solution, fulvic acid and a bit of compost tea.
Now its a waiting game.

I have been sent some photos from clients in the Yeoval area showing the terrific results they have achived
with October 2020 sown premier digit. This stand was sown with a disc seeder by mixing the bare seed with the fertiliser. Its very pleasing to see new clients using our product and advice to get a successful result.

Very happy with the seed sample this year. The premier digit stood up nicely at harvest, didn't have to take any of the pasture underneath so the sample off the header was good.
