❤️ Red is the new blue and 💚lime is the new dark green, but for new/replacement bins only.

A national standard (AS4123) for kerbside bins has been established, stipulating a consistent colour for each waste stream across Australia to facilitate easier waste sorting and better recycling.

✅ While new bins will feature the new colours, rest assured that existing blue landfill bins and dark green FOGO bins will continue to be collected. To reduce environmental and financial impact, there is no requirement to buy new lids, nor will Council/FRWA do a blanket change of bin lids.

🔄 Through normal bin life-cycle attrition, blue and dark green lids will gradually transition to the new national colours when the existing bin needs replacing. The useful life expectancy of a kerbside bin is deemed around 7 years, though many last a lot longer. Therefore, we expect to see both red and blue landfill, and dark green and lime FOFGO lids out for collection for many years to come.

👉 Exceptional Circumstances (EC) bins will now be denoted only by a current sticker on the front, not by a different lid cover.

✅♻ E-waste recycling totals for 2025-2026 for the Goolwa and KIRRC Depots.

Great work, everyone. You've helped recycle over 51 tonnes of TVs and Information Technology equipment away from landfill last financial year.

📺💻If you have an old TV or laptop lying around, bring it to any FRWA depot for free recycling*.

👷 🛠️ The Goolwa Waste and Recycling Depot shed rebuild has started.

🚧 Short delays and traffic restrictions may occur on site
🚧 We thank customers and visitors for their patience during the construction stages.

🔨 Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority is excited to share that the rebuild of the main Goolwa shed that was extensively damaged by a battery fire in October last year has commenced.

🧰 The rebuild project is scheduled to be completed by the end of this year.

It's a timely reminder for all to dispose of batteries safely:
🔥 No batteries in any bin (not in the recycling or general waste bin)
🔥 Don't place batteries in depot waste
🔥 Separate batteries and bring them to the depots for free disposal, or Google 'bcycle' for other free disposal points
🔥 Watch out for embedded batteries like vapes, rechargeable tools and toys, stick vacuums, electric toothbrushes and rechargeable wearables like watches and ear buds/phones.

⚠️ Alert: Wattle Flat area - District Council of Yankalilla

To better serve the region, the Wattle Flat area bin collection day will change from Fridays to Thursdays from 1/7/26. The day change applies to kerbside properties and bin bank collections in the area highlighted blue on the map below.

👉 Key Dates:
1. Friday 26 June 2026 – last Friday bin collection day (blue/red landfill bin week)
2. Thursday 2 July 2026 – first Thursday collection day (yellow recycling bin week) – put bin out Wednesday night
3. Thursdays onwards – both landfill week and recycling week will be Thursday collections. Please place your bin out on Wednesday night

The change is designed to even the workload demands between Thursday and Friday, resulting in a reduction of late afternoon collections or collections being delayed to Saturday.

We thank residents in the Wattle Flat area and look forward to collecting their bins on a Thursday.

1. Side arm (dual control) waste collection driver
- 0.8 to full time
- HR licence (minimum)
- At least 3 years of experience operating a side arm (dual control) collections vehicle

2. In-house transport driver
- Casual position
- HC licence (minimum)
- at least 5 years of driving history

♻💻 🌿 2026-2027 bin collection calendars out now

👍 In 2025, the Fleurieu Regional Waste Authority (FRWA), with Alexandrina, Kangaroo Island Council and City of Victor Harbor took a big step forward by transitioning to a more environmentally friendly and user-focused way of sharing our bin collection calendars. This financial year, we also welcome the District Council of Yankalilla on board.

❌ Instead of automatically delivering printed calendars to every household, we’ll be focusing on digital distribution. This change helps reduce waste from unused calendars and supports better recycling practices, especially since magnets attached to calendars can prevent proper recycling if not removed. The change also aligns with other SA Councils, many of which have not delivered printed calendars for several years.

🧲 We understand that some residents still prefer a printed version, so we’ve made sure those are still available—just bring your magnet to reuse it!

👀 Here’s how you can access your calendar:

♻ Download the My Local Services App for weekly bin reminders (currently not provided by the City of Victor Harbor).
♻ Save a PDF or screenshot of your collection calendar from the FRWA website. Our new address-specific calendars are simpler and clearer, showing only the collection days that matter to you. You can still download the Council-wide calendar version if you prefer.
♻ Pick up a printed copy from your local Council office or FRWA Waste and Recycling Depot.
♻ Request a printed calendar to be mailed to you. Fill out the form at the end of the FRWA collection calendars web page, or call our team on 8555 2467 (Monday to Friday 8.30 am to 4.00 pm).
