DCI International today announced plans to commence production of a next-generation Australian-built manned drone program, with manufacturing and development operations to be based between the companyβs Gold Coast headquarters and its Sydney workshop.
There will be an Octocopter (1 seater) and Dodecacopter (1 or 2 Seater) options.
The announcement marks a major milestone for the Australian drone and advanced aviation sector, positioning DCI International as one of the few Australian companies actively developing locally built personal aerial mobility platforms.
The new aircraft program will focus on lightweight electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) technology, combining advanced drone systems, aviation-grade safety engineering, and Australian manufacturing capability. Initial concepts are expected to include both single-seat and future dual-seat configurations designed for recreational, industrial, emergency response, and specialised mobility applications.
DCI International said the project reflects the growing global demand for compact manned aerial systems while supporting local innovation, engineering, and skilled manufacturing jobs within Australia.
βOur vision is to create an Australian-built manned drone platform that showcases local engineering, innovation, and advanced manufacturing capability,β said a spokesperson for DCI International.
βBy establishing production across our Gold Coast headquarters and Sydney workshop, we are building the foundations for a world-class aviation technology program designed and manufactured in Australia.β
The Gold Coast headquarters will serve as the primary research, design, assembly, and testing facility, while the Sydney workshop will support component fabrication, systems integration, and specialised engineering development.
DCI International confirmed the project is currently progressing through early-stage development and prototype planning, with further details expected to be released as testing and certification pathways advance.
The company believes the expansion into manned drone technology complements its existing expertise in commercial drone systems and reinforces Australiaβs growing role in the future of advanced air mobility.
Industry observers have noted increasing international investment in eVTOL aircraft and personal aerial transport systems, with Australia emerging as a potential hub for innovation due to its strong aviation heritage, engineering talent, and large operational environments.
DCI International expects the program to create new opportunities for collaboration with Australian suppliers, technology partners, and aviation specialists as development progresses.
