Don’t let a storm ruin your pool! ⚡
📍 With heavy rain expected from Cyclone Alfred, take these steps to protect your pool and home:
🔹 Balance pool water – Prevent bacteria and algae growth by ensuring your water chemistry is within range and your chlorine levels are between 1 – 3ppm.
🔹 Lower the water level – Reduce it to halfway up the skimmer box opening to prevent overflow. (Do not drain lower to ensure the pump still operates effectively.)
🔹 If you have a fiberglass shell, do not drop the water level; keep the water level to ensure there is weight and to prevent the shell from popping out of place due to groundwater underneath the pool.
🔹 Clear debris – Skim out leaves, twigs, and floating material. Empty skimmer and pump baskets to avoid clogging.
🔹 Protect equipment & drains – Remove built-up debris around pumps, heaters, and drains to allow rainwater to escape freely.
🔹 Secure loose items – Store away pool accessories, toys, umbrellas, and outdoor furniture to prevent damage.
🔹 Put away your Dolphin pool cleaner – Store it safely indoors to prevent damage from heavy rain and debris.
🔹 Run the pump prior to the storm – Keep your filter running as usual unless large amounts of dirt enter the pool.
🔹 Just before the cyclone comes, manually shut off power to the pool. Do this from the circuit breaker.
🔹 If possible, cover the pool equipment in waterproof plastic – Wrap the pool pump, the chlorinator, time clock and heater
🔹 Use a pool cover – If possible, cover your pool to keep out excessive debris and contaminants.
Prepare now to minimise storm damage. Stay safe! 🌊
