Rabbit numbers are booming across parts of WA, with landholders reporting a surge in activity and rabbits spreading further from their warrens.

Recent rainfall and a wet winter have provided ample feed, creating ideal breeding conditions.

Mobrup farmer Emily Stretch, who's currently harvesting in Cunderdin, says some of their paddocks have been hit hard.

"I have seen areas where lupin paddocks have been nuked for about five hectares where you wouldn't even put the header front into the paddock."

"Each season comes through where they do explode in population, there's just a few more and a few more and a few more until you get to a point where you go hang on, this is actually becoming a serious issue."

Blackwood Biosecurity operations officer Jason Dearle says conditions this year are ideal for rabbit breeding:

"With increased rainfall, increased population and soil viability, it does create an environment that's beneficial to rabbits and population increase."

He says community coordination is key.

"Rabbits obviously don't recognise property boundaries, so we try to encourage neighbouring properties and land managers to jump on board at the same time to implement control."
