I'm rapidly losing patience with this Wybot robot pool cleaner, not only does it choose to finish its cycle in the middle of the deep d. making it very difficult to retrieve for recharging, but it has now started throwing one of its caterpillar tracks. Not happy Jan.

For anybody considering purchasing a Wybot pool vac, you need to be aware that, contrary to the manufacturer's instructions, the unit does not always return to the nearest wall at end of a cycle. Retrieving it from the bottom deep end - and 5 metres from an edge - for recharging is very definitely not a strong selling point.

If I knew then what I know now, the Wybot C1 would not be in the company pool. I can no longer access the unit to alter the cleaning cycles !!! Whoever designed the software has confused access to a simple pool cleaner with access to the strongroom at the Reserve Bank. None of the requested verification codes reached my email, and when I opted for the "forgotten password" option, I was informed that the passwords did not align. Once bitten, twice shy. Never again.

Our decision to replace the virtually impossible to obtain expensive copper-silver electrodes which had been the industry standard since the 1960's, was not without much trepidation. However, having made the quantum leap, the feedback we receive from our customers continues to support the move. The latest one-liner continues to reinforce our decision to fly in the face of convention.

Further to my previous post, the pic attached illustrates the difference between a new electrode (right) and one the has been in service for 15 months (left). The "burn" will continue until there is nothing left either side of the spacer, giving an estimated life (for a pair) in the company's 65,00 litre pool of 2.5 years - and 4 years for a typical domestic pool of 40,000 litres. Replacement cost of one pair of electrodes with spacers, seals and hardware is $157.60 + GST. It really doesn't get much better than that. 🙂

Having made the decision to change the design and composition of our electrodes, the first pair was installed in the company's pool in February '24. With our swimming season now over, they were removed to assess their condition - and their condition was exactly as predicted. The wear pattern was absolutely uniform over the whole of the wetted surfaces. Overall length had dropped and the thickness reduced from 6.0 mm down to 2.0 mm. Note that the 3D printed spacers had done their job by protecting the contact surfaces from electrolysis, ensuring that there was sufficient thread to keep the terminal studs in place.

Our (southern) swimming season usually draws to a close around ANZAC DAY, and this is further confirmed by the fact that the official opening of our ski season is June 1st. You may no longer be swimming in you outdoor pool, but it is the perfect time to look at some basic maintenance - and what better place to start than the filter. And by way of illustration, the "before and after" pics clearly illustrate the reason why. And while the pool has got your attention, have a close look at the condition of your ioniser's electrodes. If you need replacements, we have plenty in stock. Maybe time to beat the next season price rise.

Further to earlier posts about our decision to fly in the face of convention and change the design and composition of our electrodes (anodes) we have just received an update from the owners of a resort just north of the equator - and the news just gets better. Not only has the cost of electrodes been halved, but the owner is now saving significant dollars by reducing running times, and the use of supporting chemicals. A win - win for the owners and the clients.

Our decision to change the design of our electrodes has obviously been well received. The attached pic is part of an order for flowcells and electrodes from one of our long term customers.

Our decision to fly in the face of decades of convention by adopting a far less expensive alternative for our fresh water systems, has just received yet another glowing report of support from a pool owner. And for those a little sceptical about our systems underperforming in pools anywhere North of the Murray River, the pool pictured here is a mere 6 deg. North of the Equator. "One picture worth a thousand words". You be the judge.

The exponentially increasing cost of silver was the catalyst that caused us to revisit our ioniser electrodes archive and dust off a file labelled "AlgaeNON". This move closely followed by field trials in the company's pool, and several resort pools closer to the Equator. Suffice to say the the results confirmed our decision, a view which was recently underscored by the owner of the resort whose slightly edited version goes like this:
"I am so happy to let you know that the AlgaeNON anodes are performing very well in one of our resort's pools. I can see no difference in the results in pools running the traditional copper/silver anodes. Fabulous." The better news is that these very same anodes (electrodes) are on the market now and they retail at about 1/3rd the price of their copper/silver cousins. Want to know more? contact our office.

Behind every water feature, hidden from the public's gaze, is all the interesting stuff. Pictured here are the hydraulics components of two recently commissioned water features in inner Melbourne. A great deal of thought has been given to the layout, making a relatively complex design look simple and straightforward. Note particularly the two Aquavic "Aqua Soleil" low voltage ionisers. If you have any issues controlling algal blooms in your water feature or fountain, have a chat with Darryl Hoogeboom at Oz Watergardens 0407 379 665.
