⚠️ Important Reminder: Termites & Electrical Areas ⚠️
Something we always like to point out during inspections is how often termites are found around electrical areas of the home. It’s not something many people think about, but it’s actually quite common.
We regularly find termite activity in and around: 🔌 Meter boxes and switchboards
🔌 Air-conditioning units
🔌 Hot water systems
🔌 Power points and wall cavities with wiring
Termites aren’t attracted to electricity itself — but they are drawn to the heat, moisture, and hidden access points these areas can provide.
Electrical conduits and wall penetrations can act like highways, allowing termites to move undetected into wall cavities and even roof spaces.
There are a few warning signs you can keep an eye out for: • Mud tubes around meter boxes or walls
• Unusual marks or damage near electrical fittings
• Unexplained electrical issues (which can sometimes indicate damaged wiring insulation)
It’s also important to avoid using DIY sprays or disturbing these areas, especially near electrical components. This can be dangerous and may push termite activity further into the structure, making treatment more difficult.
Regular termite inspections are the best way to stay ahead of issues — particularly for homes with older wiring, external meter boxes, or wall-mounted systems.
By understanding where termites are likely to appear, you can help protect not just your home, but also its electrical safety.
