VKOM PEST — TERMITE SWARMING ALERT
🐜 FOUND FLYING TERMITES AROUND YOUR PROPERTY?
Those flying termites are known as alates — the reproductive stage of a termite colony.
Their appearance can indicate active termite activity nearby, but flying termites alone do not necessarily prove that a colony is inside your home. A professional inspection is the best way to determine the source and risk.
WHAT HAPPENS DURING A SWARM?
01 — ALATES EMERGE
Winged termites leave an established colony when environmental conditions are suitable.
02 — WINGS ARE SHED
After landing, they may shed their wings and search for suitable conditions to establish a new colony.
03 — COLONY ESTABLISHMENT
A successful pair may establish a new colony in suitable soil or timber. The colony can develop over time and potentially cause significant timber damage.
🔎 LOOK FOR THESE WARNING SIGNS
• Flying termites or piles of discarded wings
• Mud/shelter tubes
• Hollow-sounding or damaged timber
• Termites emerging from timber or wall areas
• Moisture problems around the building
• Timber in direct contact with soil
• Previous termite treatment or termite damage
⚠️ DON'T JUST TREAT THE SWARM
Killing the flying termites you can see does not eliminate the underlying termite colony.
The important question is: WHERE ARE THEY COMING FROM?
A proper termite inspection can assess the building, identify termite activity and determine appropriate management options.
