Our friends at The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development have issued another Quarantine alert.

Our friends at The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development have issued another Quarantine alert.

⚠️ Biosecurity alert for residents who live in the City of Gosnells, City of Joondalup, City of Swan and City of Kalamunda⚠️

If you live in the areas highlighted in the below map then you are now in a Polyphagous shot-hole borer (PSHB) Quarantine Area. The newly updated Quarantine Area is in place as part of a program to work out the spread of the pest in the metro area 🌳

These beetles are roughly the size of a sesame seed and excavates tunnels in trees where they cultivate fungus as a food source. This fungus spreads inside the tunnels, disrupting the flow of water and nutrients.

These little guys can have a massive impact on WA’s natural environments, horticulture and agriculture industries and so we need your help to contain their spread.

If you live or work in this quarantine area then you must not move any wood or plant material including

bark
firewood
tree prunings 🍃
logs
wood
wood chips
mulch
potted plants
plant cuttings🍂

Note: wood chips smaller than 2.5cm wide and living plants with woody stems smaller than 2cm wide CAN be moved outside of the quarantine area.

If you plan to do some gardening, tree lopping mulching, wood chipping or handling green waste must remove all wood material from their machinery and equipment before moving outside of the quarantine area. These restrictions do not apply to lawn clippings.

For more information on the borer and quarantine area requirements, visit: agric.wa.gov.au/borer

As proud sponsors of the Amanda Young Foundation, we are pleased and excited to promote 'Amanda's Garden Fete'.

The Amanda Young Foundation does incredible work to save and enhance lives through community education and awareness of the meningococcal disease. Every year the foundation holds a fete in Amanda's Garden to raise money for the cause. This is a great day out as well as a fantastic opportunity to support the Amanda Young Foundation!

We encourage you to bring your friends and families along for a walk through the garden, where you will also have a chance to see Amanda's Rose, a unique rose that was cultivated for the foundation, as well as a number of stalls for you to browse.

Details can be found on the below link.

The Department of Agriculture has recently released an update to their requirements for the importation of Cut Flowers and Foliage into Australia.

Since the Department changed the import conditions in March 2018, there have been an unacceptably high number of pests arriving at the Australian border. As of 1st September 2019, shipments of cut flowers and foliage to Australia produce from Kenya, Columbia and Ecuador will require the use of import permits.

Permits for importers can be applied for in the Departments BICON system from 1st July 2019.
