COSBOA is urging Australians to understand the pressures facing small businesses as new card surcharge rules take effect from 1 October.

Small merchants can pay substantially more to accept card payments than larger businesses, and those costs will not disappear when surcharging ends.

That leaves many small businesses with difficult decisions about how to manage the cost, whether through their margins, pricing or payment arrangements.

Small businesses know their customers are managing cost-of-living pressures too, and any decision to change prices will be carefully considered.

COSBOA is also calling for planned reductions in payment costs to genuinely flow through to small businesses.
