Flying termites are called alates they are on a colonising flight to start a new termite colony. The colonising flight occurs during moderate temperatures and of high humidity.

Many customers call our office in a panic when the flying termites start to occur. This is a normal occurrence and happens every year. Although this is a natural yearly event is can be quite alarming for some homeowners.

Where a homeowner gets a lot of flying reproductive termites around their home it can be a sign that there’s a termite colony close by.

Have you ever found discarded wings by a window?
Once back on solid ground, the termites discards their wings and look for suitable wood to attack and build their nest in.

In the case of Drywood termites, this could be timber within your roof or subfloor – this is where the potential damage begins and can continue unnoticed for months and even years!

There are termites all around us but unfortunately, we sometimes don’t notice them until it’s too late. The first sighting of termites for many people is when the damage is all ready done.

Termites will silently eat the timbers behind the plasterboard and can go unnoticed for many months. This is just one reason why it’s so important to have an annual termite inspection carried out.

White Footed House Ants are on the march in the Cairns and Port Douglas regions.🐜🌴
We have treated a significant number of properties these past weeks with nests found inside and outside homes.

Small colonies can be seen at dusk and dawn as the ants are rushing to get food and water to grow their numbers.

Mature colonies can range from 8,000 to 3 million+ individuals and thick stream of ants can be seen from dusk to dawn going back and forth to their food source and the multiple nests.

This particular species of ant is quite difficult to control so don't let this pest take over your property.
