How often should I get my house washed?
During the drought in 2006, they legislated that a rented property could legally be washed six times a year. One on a tenant leaving, one on a tenant arriving, one pre-paint, one post-paint, one pre-sale, and one post-sale. If those three activities happened in a year you could legally have a house wash six times during a drought!
But is that necessary? The short answer is: no way.
I usually recommend that you have a house wash once a year. But there are exceptions…
Two of my loyal clients need a house wash every six months. They aren’t pedantic, their houses are extremely prone to mould.
I’ve been washing houses in Brisbane for 20 years and I couldn’t confidently tell you why some houses are more prone to mould than others. One of the clients I’ve mentioned lives on the north side in a valley, surrounded by trees. It’s not surprising that there is a build-up of moisture with the density of trees and foliage. But the other house is in an exposed area, high up on a hill with only a couple of palm trees in the neighbour’s yard. Both of these houses quickly grow mould.
But as a general rule I would encourage you to have your house washed every year or every second year. In my experience, I find that the paint lasts longer with a regular house wash, and an annual or biennial clean is sufficient to keep your home looking shipshape.
