🚿 The shower that smells…

If your shower is starting to smell a little funky, or the water is taking longer than usual to disappear, your drain could be the culprit.

Hair, soap residue, oils and general bathroom grime can build up inside the drain over time creating odours and restricting water flow.

And sometimes, what looks like a pretty ordinary drain from above is hiding a whole lot of grossness underneath. 😬

We’ve now moved 90% of our cleaning cloths over to cotton to help minimise plastic microfibres entering our waterways each wash. ✨☀️🌬️
We also try to sun dry everything where possible to save electricity, harnessing sun and wind energy to sanitise and remove creases.🫧🧺🧽

Modern slavery very much still exists. It can be closer than we think and can hide in plain sight, including in Australia’s cleaning industry.

There are many forms of slavery in the modern day and Australia’s cleaning industry is a high-risk sector. Some cleaners are especially vulnerable to abusive practices like wage withholding, immigration-related coercion, deceptive recruitment, excessive unpaid overtime, confiscation of personal documents, and debt bo***ge. Charging a low rate for cleaning services may be a warning sign—if you’re paying under $40/hr, you could be unintentionally contributing to these unethical practices.

By keeping an eye out for these signs, you can help ensure that workers are treated fairly and with dignity. Remember, if it sounds too cheap it is probably at the expense of someone’s freedom.

Here are 4 simple ways to reduce your environmental footprint every day:

🧼 Clean consciously – Stick to the basics: dishwashing liquid, bicarb, and vinegar. That’s truly all you need. Don’t be fooled by clever marketing—most “specialty” cleaners are just variations on the same thing. Fewer products mean less waste, fewer toxins, less packaging and more money in your pocket!
💧 Use Less – Water, electricity, detergent or stuff, using only what you need helps conserve resources.
🛍️ Rethink & Reduce Consumption – Buy less, choose well and make it last. Stop listening to the internet, no one needs new clothes and cosmetics every week. Second-hand or minimal high-quality pieces are better for the Earth and your wallet.
🌱 Grow & Compost – Composting keeps organic matter out of landfill and is one of the most impactful things you can do to reduce your footprint! It returns nutrients to the soil, instead of converting to methane, which is 28 times more potent than CO2. Growing a few herbs or a small veggie patch at home reduces food miles, plastic packaging, chemicals and can limit the frequency of going to the supermarket $$.
