The Adelaide Parklands, one of Australia’s most iconic tourist attractions. The world-famous Adelaide Parklands the green heart that makes Adelaide one of Australia’s most unique and loved destinations.
The Adelaide Parklands are iconic because they form a rare green belt completely surrounding the city, giving Adelaide space, beauty, and breathing room that most cities lost long ago.
They were part of the original vision by Colonel William Light, who planned the city so these open spaces would be protected and enjoyed by the people forever. That’s what makes them so special they’re not just parks, they’re a legacy gifted to the people of Adelaide, a living reminder that nature and city life can exist side by side.
How can anyone seriously justify cutting down 600 trees in the heart of our beautiful Adelaide Parklands? ***Sign here to have your voice heard: https://c.org/tzRvrkS5BJ
This isn’t just “green space” this is one of Adelaide’s most iconic and defining features. It’s what makes our city unique in the world.
Tourists don’t come here to admire cleared land and construction!!!
They come for the open space, the wildlife, the incredible natural beauty that surrounds our city.
These trees are doing so much more than people realise. They are:
• 🌿 Cooling our city during extreme heat
• 🐦 Providing vital habitat for birds and wildlife
• 🌏 Improving air quality and helping fight climate change
• 🧘 Supporting mental health and wellbeing for everyone who walks, relaxes, and connects with nature here.
In addition culturally and spiritually, and importantly, there are also Kaurna ancestral remains at this site and the government has conceded that bones could be disturbed during excavation. This is deeply disrespectful and an act of cultural and environmental degradation!!
These trees are a life source in the Adelaide Parkands, every leaf, seed, flower and drop of nectar is life itself, feeding birds, bees and native animals, while their branches and hollows provide sanctuary, nesting, and a safe place for future generations to survive. Remove them, and you don’t just lose trees you silence an entire living ecosystem. 💔
And we’re going to destroy that… for what???
Once these trees are gone, they cannot simply be replaced. You can plant new ones, sure but you cannot replace decades of growth, established ecosystems, and the natural character of this place. That loss is permanent!!!
Let’s be honest this is not just disappointing, it’s completely out of touch and wrong.
In a time where the world is trying to protect green spaces and fight environmental decline, we’re doing the exact opposite in one of the most visible parts of our city.
We should be protecting and enhancing our Parklands not tearing them down.
This space belongs to everyone, not just a single project or interest group. Future generations deserve to experience the same beauty we do today not look back and wonder why we let it disappear.
Please reconsider this.
Protect our trees. Protect our Parklands. Protect what makes Adelaide truly special because in coming days our premier Peter Malinouskas is having all the trees you see in this photo decimated along with the wildlife. 🌳🦉🐨🦜🪺🦆🦘💔
