Everyone who has ever broken up from a love relationships knows that each break up is unique.
However the 7 stages of grief are still the same:
โข Shock
โข Denial
โข Isolation
โข Anger
โข Bargaining
โข Depression
โข Acceptance
In 2016 a Stanford University did a study on recovery from romantic break up's.
โThe research shows that very basic beliefs about personality can contribute to whether people recover from, or remain mired in, the pain of rejection,โ said Carol Dweck, Professor of Psychology. Prior research suggests that people typically know how to cope with the emotional hurt of rejection. But sometimes, according to the study, rejections can linger, even for years, and cause problems for future relationships"
After a break up allowing yourself to move through the 7 stages healthily may seem like quite a feat. In many cases people try to avoid this process and can find themselves stuck in a grief stage or they try to by pass the grief process by seeking out another relationship too quickly. This can be particularly detrimental if you are still stuck in a grief stage. More often than not this can lead to escalated feelings of rejection as the new relationship may struggle to grow among the wounds of the old one.
You don't have to navigate this process on your own, There are steps you can take to assist in the healing process and move forward.
Your happiness is worth investing in.
