Sound On

Friday’s LEAN & LEAG conversation with 5AA highlighted serious concerns many lived experience women have repeatedly raised regarding unsupported and unpaid trauma disclosure processes facilitated through Embolden.

Multiple emails and requests for change have already been made, as women within the community continue voicing their unwillingness to participate in surveys or even join the Embolden-led research group, due to concerns around safety, retraumatisation and lack of appropriate therapeudic support.

People are feeling unheard, disrespected and emotionally exhausted, with feelings of government gaslighting and coercion common within conversation.

Lived experience is expertise. It is not free labour.

Today I used my voice to speak out on 5AA about concerns surrounding how Embolden are engaging with members of the LEAN who wish to contribute to domestic and family violence reform in South Australia.

Unfortunately, the Minister and Embolden were not available to continue the conversation on air. Hoping they can make the time soon.

We, the lived experience individuals have asked them to stop using engagement methods that many women feel are re-traumatising, unsupported and not genuinely trauma-informed.

Women and men with lived experience are not “free data”.

They are human beings - many still rebuilding their lives while trying to help create safer futures for others.

This conversation is not about conflict. It is about asking systems to do better.

Because future prevention begins with how we treat people now.

What’s one way we could create more dignity and support in our communities right now?

Human rights are not just legal words on paper.

They show up in everyday life.

In whether people:

- can access healthy food
- feel safe at home
- are treated with dignity
- have access to education
- are given opportunities to participate
- can ask for help without shame
- are supported before reaching crisis

Human rights begin in communities.

And one of the most powerful things we can do is look out for one another in practical ways.

Things that genuinely help:

- checking in on isolated people
- supporting local families doing it tough
- sharing knowledge and opportunities
- mentoring young people
- creating inclusive spaces
- speaking up when something feels wrong
- treating people with dignity, especially when they’re struggling

A better world is built through small human actions repeated consistently.

What’s one practical thing that would help families most right now?

Most people don’t realise food insecurity doesn’t always have to “look poor.”

Sometimes it looks like:

- skipping meals so the kids can eat
- buying the cheapest food because fresh food feels unaffordable
- feeling too exhausted to cook
- standing in the supermarket overwhelmed

When people are stressed, burnt out or surviving trauma, nutrition becomes harder.

This is why communities matter. That's why education as seasons change - matters.

Things that you might be able to do that genuinely help:

- sharing affordable healthy recipes
- cooking extra meals for others
- swapping produce from gardens
- teaching young people basic cooking
- helping families learn low-cost healthy options without shame

Small acts of support create stronger communities.

💭Life Could Be A Dream

Life Could Be A Dream offers a vision of what liberation can look like. The film's impact strategy seeks to reimagine the stories we tell about love, celebrate relationships built on mutual respect and equality, and help people recognise the patterns that constrain them – and the paths that lead toward freedom.

This movie will open conversations about what healthy relationships look like and connect audiences with information and community support.

Please take a moment to watch the trailer - an share with your friends and family.

Did you know early - entrepreneurship programs helps build confidence, economic literacy, self worth and resilience in young people. Yes - some schools teach micro-enterprise! Career direction!

But most schools teach a curriculum. Not real-life.

That's what sets Elevate Entrepreneurs apart from most programs and university degrees.

Our facilitators ALL run their own businesses today, in real time. They know what's going on in the economy, behind the scenes - not what was written a year ago.

And that really does matter.

Do you want to give your young person the type of real-life learning they can really use today and into the future. Build their capacity to achieve the most they can out of life!

Elevate Entrepreneurs is online. Easy access. No travel required.
