Introduction of IPM to Afghanistan:

In 2010, the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) jointly launched a four years project on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) in Afghanistan with financial assistance from the government of Norway. The project supports the capacity building of Plant Protection and Quarantine, and General Extensi

on directorates of MAIL to establish the foundation for a national IPM program in the country. The aim is to shift from an emergency approach to a longer term, sustainable approach to pest management through development and dissemination of environment friendly, ecological practices of crop production and protection across the country. The project is building the capacity of farmers through introduction of Farmer Field School (FFS) to improve the productivity of their crops in a sustainable manner, while reducing the use of synthetic pesticides and other harmful chemicals in agriculture.
