Today DEWATS is disseminated by public authorities, urban planners, architects and NGOs in Asia and Africa. Its approach and its significant impact for livelihoods and environment is acknowledged by inter-national experts and decision makers. Building on this experience and driven by the aim to up-scale the dissemination of decentralized treatment systems a prefabricated system was developed: prefab-DEWATS. Prefab-DEWATS offers all the benefits and features of the conventional DEWATS and additionally increases effectiveness, mobility and user-friendliness.

DEWATS stands for „Decentralized Wastewater Treatment System“. DEWATS was developed in 1998 as a demand-based solution to reduce water-pollution by small and medium enterprises and settlements in densely populated areas.
