Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company Limited today joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Water Day under the theme:
“Water and Gender: Increasing Water Access for Women, Men and Girls for a Sustainable Future.”
Speaking at the event at Mulambwa Grounds in Mongu, Western Province Permanent Secretary Mr. Simomo Akapelwa who was the Guest of Honour, reaffirmed Government’s commitment to ensuring that every citizen had access to safe, clean and reliable water.
Mr Simomo said that Government would continue to work with cooperating partners and stakeholders to ensure no one was left behind.
Mr Simomo said through Western Water Supply and Sanitation had and was improving water accessibility to all through the Integrated Small Towns Water Supply and and Sanitation and Limulunga projects.
He said soon the Government would commence a water and sanitation project in Libonda.
The Permanent Secretary further said through the rural component the Government had Key projects of over ten (10) piped water supply schemes constructed in rural growth centres, one and sixty two (162) new boreholes being drilled and one and forty eighty (148) being rehabilitated, Expansion of water supply in urban districts and Investment in dams and water harvesting to address climate change. All these would increase accessibility for women and children to access water.
Meanwhile, Speaking on behalf of the Managing Director of Western Water Supply and Sanitation Dr. Eng. Mufalo Nanyama Kabika, Finance Manager, Mr George Mulonda said that the theme resonated with the Company's mandate to deliver safe and reliable water to all.
Mr Mulonda said water was more than just a service, but a human need and a key driver of social and economic Development.
"The availability and accessibility of clean and safe water to Women, Men and Girls directly influence Public Health, Education and livelihoods across the communities we serve." He Said.
He said the Company remained committed to expanding it's infrastructure, improvement, service delivery and embrace innovative solutions to reach unserved areas.
And in a vote of thanks, Mongu Town Clerk, Mr Oliver Muuka, who is also D-WASHE chairperson said that the local authority wants running water provided in most of the facilities such as schools and other public places through Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company in towns, growth centres and under the Constituency Development Fund -CDF as support was available.
He thanked the service provider, Western Water Supply and Sanitation Company for for provinding the services, Water Aid, ECO and others for the continued partnership.
