Did your plumbing just make a noise that sounded like someone hit the wall with a hammer? 😳

If your pipes bang, knock or thump when a tap, toilet valve or appliance suddenly stops the flow of water, it could be water hammer.

Water moving through pipework has momentum. When that flow stops suddenly, it can create a pressure shock that produces the familiar BANG!

A once-off noise might not mean there's a serious problem, but persistent or increasingly loud banging is worth having investigated.

Not every leak announces itself with a puddle on the floor.
If you suspect unexplained water usage, try this simple check:
🚰 Make sure no water is being used
📸 Note or photograph your water-meter reading
⏱️ Wait about 10–15 minutes without using water
👀 Check the meter again
If the reading has changed, it may indicate water is still flowing somewhere and the cause is worth investigating.
It isn’t a diagnosis on its own — but it can be a useful clue.

We love a good DIY project as much as the next person… but plumbing has a sneaky way of turning “I’ve got this” into “WHY IS THERE WATER EVERYWHERE?!” 😂💦
Some small household tasks are manageable.
But recurring blockages, burst pipes, geyser problems and plumbing you’re unsure about deserve professional attention.
A useful rule:
👉 If you’re not sure what you’re disconnecting, adjusting or replacing — don’t guess.
And if water is escaping quickly, first shut off your main water supply if it is safe to do so, then call for help.
