Flies in food establishments like restaurant
The food waste and garbage thrown out at restaurants can attract a lot of flies. Flies buzzing around your customers is certainly not good for business. This is a guide about getting rid of flies at a restaurant.
A fly infestation poses a serious hygiene risk. Unfortunately, flies are attracted to conditions found in restaurants, where they can do the most damage. Flies are known to carry numerous diseases, including malaria, typhoid and cholera. Flies feed on decaying organic waste, and then transfer pathogens from their feet to human food and food preparation surfaces.
Sanitation is crucial in preventing flies from infesting a restaurant kitchen. Keep trash pails, drains and drain traps clean. Counter spaces and chopping blocks should be wiped down regularly. All food should remain refrigerated when it is not being used. Keep doors and windows closed as much as possible to prevent fly entry. Screening vents, doors and windows may also help to prevent fly infestations. Sometimes large fans, called “air curtains” are effective at keeping flies out of restaurants.
Fly management in restaurants can be a challenge with because flies just fly right in when deliveries are being made, the trash is taken out, or when customers are entering. Flies are usually associated with poor sanitation procedures. Areas that are not cleaned properly or where standing water is left unchecked are potential problem areas. A thorough inspection should be performed to find fly breeding areas.

• Fly control should begin with stopping the flies from entering the facility. Eliminate flies at the trash dumpiest before they move indoors by keeping their areas as clean as possible and closing dumpster lids when not in use.
• Sink and floor drains are major breeding grounds for many types of flies and should be kept extremely clean.
