October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In South Africa, breast cancer is the most common cancer affecting women, with a lifetime risk of 1 in 28. It is also increasingly affecting younger women in their 20s and 30s.
As we step into this new month, we at LAMI want to encourage you to make your health and well-being a priority. Remember to:
🔍 Get to know your normal: Do regular breast self-examinations (at least once a month).
🏥 Schedule your screenings: Book your annual clinical exams or mammograms.
🧬 Know your family history: Share any history of cancer with your healthcare provider if you can.
🏃♀️ Stay active & nourish your body: Keep moving and incorporate fresh, wholesome foods like fruits, veg, and whole grains.
🚭 Reduce risks: Limit alcohol intake and smoking, which are known risk factors.
Early detection is our greatest tool to help prevent or detect breast cancer early. Let’s look out for ourselves and each other this October. 💖
