🌴🐜 TERMITE TIPS 🐜🌴

📋Here are some tips to help prevent termites from targeting your home and yard as summer approaches.

Phoenix is heating up, irrigation systems are running longer, and we might even get some rain. That mix can attract subterranean termites.

A few easy ways to help keep termites away:

💧 Don’t overwater near your foundation. Fix irrigation leaks quickly and avoid soaking soil right against the house. Drip lines should not drip directly onto plant base.

🌳 Keep wood off the ground. Firewood, cardboard, and scrap wood sitting on soil can attract termites. Wood mulch is a NO-GO in AZ

🍂 Consider rock instead of wood mulch near the foundation. Mulch can hold moisture and make termite activity harder to spot.

🌿 Trim plants and shrubs away from the house. Dense growth can trap moisture and hide signs of termites.

🚰 Check for leaky spigots, irrigation valves, and AC drain lines. Damp soil is exactly what termites like.

🔍 Watch for mud tubes on foundations or walls. If you see one, dont ignore it. Keep a 4 inch gap between siding (stucco) and the ground.

🏠 A professional inspection can catch termite activity before it turns into an expensive repair. We offer a 57-point inspection at no cost to you.

🐜Termite Death Zone🐜... what the heck is it and what does it mean for Arizona homeowners looking for termite treatments?...

🐜Termite Death Zone🐜... what the heck is it and what does it mean for Arizona homeowners looking for termite treatments?

The University of Florida (Florida has more termite species than anywhere else in the US) released a really interesting study that changes some of what many thought was fact about termite treatments.

A few quick points first:

1️⃣Liquid termite treatments still work. Just maybe not in the exact way people thought.
2️⃣. Bait stations might actually be more useful than a lot of industry people give them credit for.
3️⃣ Mixing liquid treatments and bait stations together takes planning or you can actually reduce how effective the bait stations are.

👨‍🏫THE DETAILS

- The study found that liquid treatments using fipronil didnt fully eliminate termite colonies in a lot of cases. Instead it created what researchers called a "death zone" where termites started avoiding the treated area after exposed termites died nearby.

- Basically the termites stopped crossing the treated soil and even sealed off certain foraging paths. The crazy part is the remaining colony often stayed alive underground nearby.

- NOTE: Now don't mistake this as "liquid treatments dont work." Thats not what the study says at all.

- Liquid treatments are still extremely effective at protecting homes and stopping termite activity around the structure. The study just suggests they may be better at protecting homes than fully eliminating every termite in the colony.

About The Termite Bait Stations.

I hear pest control guys all the time say bait stations are gimmicks or just a way to charge homeowners more money. But there's multiple studies showing bait stations CAN and DO eliminate entire termite colonies.

The problem is... Drum Roll.... Time. They take time to work.

Some studies showed about 5.5 months to eliminate a colony once termites actually found the bait. Other studies showed around 10.5 months total from original installation when the stations first had wood plugs installed and then bait was added later after activity was found.

INCOMING ----> Now this is where the combining of liquid and bait stations get interesting. But it has to be done right or it IS a waste of money.

A hybrid treatment SHOULD combine targeted liquid treatments with bait stations. You cant just blast the entire perimeter foundation with liquid and then throw bait stations in the ground. That renders the termite bait stations useless.

The study says the "death zone" can extend over 8 feet from treated soil. Most bait stations are installed around 3-4 feet from the structure. So if the whole perimeter is heavily treated the termites may avoid the entire area and never feed on the bait stations.

OUR HYBRID TERMITE TREATMENT PROCESS

At Gold Palm Pest Control we're using this data to build science based termite treatment plans that give homeowners fast structural protection while also working toward long term colony management and monitoring.

So what do we do?

We perform highly targeted liquid treatments directly where termite mud tubes or feeding activity is found around the foundation OR inside the home. This helps stop termites from actively feeding on and damaging the home.

Then we install bait stations around the property so termites can still naturally forage, discover the bait, spread it through the colony, and help achieve long term elimination and protection. WHAM. BAM. THANK YOU MA'AM. Termites eliminated! 🤯😁💥

We also perform targeted foam treatments inside wall voids, door frames, flooring, plumbing penetrations, and other structural voids when activity is found inside.

Every home and termite situation is different which is why we offer:

- Liquid treatments
- Bait station systems
- Hybrid systems

We explain the pros and cons of each option so homeowners can choose the solution that makes the most sense for their home and situation.

Digging gopher tunnels and setting traps.

Did you know gophers can create tunnel systems 200 feet in length?

While gophers can get beneficial, when they tunnel and create mounds in backyards or ball fields they can cause harm to people inadvertently.

Sometimes removal is necessary.

This is a Termite treatment we did for a customer in Maricopa. They had a few tubes on the exterior at different points but none were present at the time of inspection or treatment… so where were the termites coming from? Post tension slab with no signs of cracking. Did you guess plumbing voids?!?

If so you’d be correct. At Gold Palm Pest we take the time to diagnose where the activity is coming from so we can do the best treatment possible for you. In this case, a liquid treatment around the home might not have been success for some time.

Which is why we include targeted foam treatments to knock down termites faster to stop them from damaging your home more.

For this home we did a full liquid barrier and targeted foam treatment.
