Carpenter Ant Alert Across Northern Michigan
Carpenter ants are one of the biggest structural pests we deal with this time of year. If you’re seeing large black ants around your cabin, cottage, home, deck, garage, or woodpile, don’t ignore them. Carpenter ants don’t eat wood, but they excavate it to build nests and often indicate moisture damage or rotting wood nearby. Spring and early summer are peak activity periods, and winged ants may begin appearing around homes.
Look for:
✔ Large black ants inside or outside the home
✔ Sawdust-like material (frass) below walls or windows
✔ Ants trailing up trees, siding, or utility lines
✔ Activity after dark
