This is an exciting post! Miss Pretty Picky Janitorial had the privilege and opportunity to participate in the Under the Big Sky event over the weekend of July 13/14. We were tasked with trash removal, but much more...we sorted through every bag and sorted out the following: cardboard for recycle, organic (left over food) for compost, plastic, aluminum and "paper board" for recycle, glass for glass crushing and re-use and the remaining for the landfill.

One way to look at the numbers is that of the 8 dumpsters that the 20,000+ attendee crowd generated, 5 of them were kept out of the landfill. This is great news. Andrew even had the privilege to see where the compost went (Dirt Rich in Columbia Falls) and was tasked with trailering the glass in 20 90-gallon containers to Flathead Recon in Columbia Falls. We have been to the land fill here in Flathead County and knowing that a good amount of the waste was kept out of the landfill is great news. Hopefully this event can help Flathead County make significant progress toward a consistent recycling program.

BIG Thanks to the "Under the Big Sky" event organizers for putting resources into this component of the festival!

I also decided to join the Ambassadors, pictured here at our March meeting. The Ambassadors is a group of chamber members who help serve the community by supporting Lunch and Learns, parades, monthly UNWINDs and other events aimed at sustaining and developing the local economy. It’s been a lot of fun so far and I look forward to both serving the community and raising the awareness in Kalispell of the commercial side of the business, Miss Pretty Picky Janitorial.

Nothing snazzy or sexy here, but VERY important...we have strengthened our approach to workplace safety with the help of Doc Vivian over at PayneWest Insurance. It helps guide our actions in the event of an injury and lines up more closely with their risk control program.
