I’ve been seeing a LOT of controversial posts about what cleaners are charging these days.
I remember doing a walkthrough when I first started my business for a nice couple who lived in a $4 million home and then telling me about their current cleaner, and that it was absurd that she charged $35/hour, and that she didn’t deserve to make that much as a cleaner.
I don’t personally charge hourly, I charge a flat rate for each individual space I clean. That being said, I have some regular clients who wonderfully maintain their space in between visits, and I still clean every inch just the same. However, because there is no buildup, I’m able to do this in 3 hours or so.
What you need to remember, is you aren’t paying your cleaner for their hours worked, you’re paying them for the end result! A thoroughly clean space. Don’t penalize them for being efficient and being able to get through the space in 3 hours vs 5 so it averages out to a higher hourly wage.
You’re paying them for using the supplies and equipment they purchase to maintain your home, the business insurance they need to carry to protect you both, and the continued education on cleaning techniques!
Also, when your cleaner goes home at the end of the day (if you have a GOOD cleaner). Their work isn’t over. They still need to clean and sanitize rags, mop heads, and vacuums.
Everyone gets to decide how they want to spend their hard earned money. Maybe paying a cleaner to clean your home is a priority, and maybe it isn’t, you get to decide! But when a cleaner gives you an estimate, understand the entire picture before you deem the price outrageous.
