Today’s tip is about rodents! MOUSE vs. RAT 🐀.. Can you tell the difference? They may both be rodents, but mice and rats are VERY different!

🔎 HERE’S HOW TO TELL:
🐭 MOUSE
• Smaller — about 5–8 inches including the tail
• Pointed snout + large, round ears
• Thin, lightly hairy tail
• Droppings look like tiny grains of rice
• Curious and quick to investigate new things
• Usually prefers seeds & grains
🐀 RAT
• Much larger — about 12–18 inches including the tail
• Blunt nose + smaller, folded ears
• Thick, scaly, hairless tail
• Droppings are larger, capsule-shaped
• More cautious around new objects
• Will eat just about anything!

Whether you have a mouse or a rat, seeing one can be a sign that others are nearby. Rodents can contaminate food, damage property, and squeeze through surprisingly small openings.

YELLOW JACKETS ARE AT THEIR PEAK! ⚠️

West Milford homeowners: August and September are prime yellow jacket season. As colonies grow to thousands of workers, these stinging pests become especially active and much more interested in your food, sugary drinks, and outdoor garbage!

Here’s what you need to know:

🟡 They can sting multiple times. Unlike honeybees, yellow jackets have smooth stingers and can sting repeatedly.

🍔 Their diet changes. Earlier in the season, they feed heavily on insects. By late summer, they’re drawn to sweets, carbohydrates, drinks, and human food.

🏡 Nests can be hidden. Look for nests underground, inside wall voids, attics, or dense shrubs.
