Covid 19 impacted us all in extremely different ways. I wanted to shine a little light on what has not been addressed as much.
Two weeks ago I crossed paths with an elder gentleman I had not seen since the beginning of the pandemic. He sparked a small conversation with me expressing that he had been seeing some bugs in his apartment. As we spoke I could tell that his health had diminished since our last encounter. He allowed us to go in his unit to identify what he had been seeing. As we entered we were shocked to see the conditions in which he was living. What once was a fairly tidy apartment was now extremely cluttered, messy, and filthy. Rotten food was found throughout, urine spills around the floor, and unfortunately bedbugs. It was clear that the man was in no condition to take care of himself but due to Covid visitations were very limited and resources were not as available. After deliberating with management we came up with a solution. Within the next week management put the tenant up in a hotel while we cleaned, disinfected, and disposed of contaminated items. Gerald worked tirelessly detailing the gentleman‘s apartment along with personally washing and drying all of his clothing over the weekend. The unit is now scheduled to be repainted in hopes that the resident returns back this week along with a new mattress being delivered this week. The pictures you see here are the before and after of what we did. His apartment is now bed bug free along with it being completely clean.
More importantly than demonstrating to you what can be accomplished when there is a common goal, I want to share the impact that Covid has had on many of us. Between mothers and fathers teaching their children from home, from children deprived of social interaction, to the elderly being left to tend to themselves. It finally feels like we’re reaching the end of the tunnel. We have all gone through a lot and now it’s time to lift each other up. Let’s not just “Be back to our regularly scheduled program”. Let join up and make a new better world for each other and our posterity.
