From Jobs to Opportunities
I'm in a high-volume industry — it’s not unusual for me to see three or four customers in a single day. I complete one job, pack up, and head to the next, working through a never-ending (and thankfully growing) list of people who have invited me to their homes. I’ve always called them “my jobs,” and that’s what they are — scheduled work, booked clients, a list to methodically and carefully check off.
But lately, I’ve started calling them something else in my head: “opportunities.”
Now, instead of thinking, “This is the second job of the day,” I think, “This is my second opportunity today.” That subtle change has done something deep for me mentally and emotionally — it’s helped reframe how I show up in my work.
It reflects a belief I’ve always held but hadn’t fully articulated: that this is more than just labor. It’s a craft. A service. A way of helping people take pride in their homes. You know the saying, “Find something you love and you’ll never work a day in your life”? I feel like I’m embodying that with this company.
I genuinely love what I do.
I love watching a dirty surface come back to life.
I love the transformation that happens — not just on a house, but in the way a homeowner lights up when they see it.
I love knowing I helped bring back that feeling of pride and dignity in someone’s home.
And yeah… I also just love working with high-powered equipment and modifying my pickup truck 😜
When I call it an opportunity, it reminds me:
That I get to do something I’m excited about every single day
That it’s an honor to be trusted to work on your home — one of your most valuable possessions
That I’m not dragging my feet into another job, but showing up to rise to the challenge of each unique house, roof, or driveway
I’m out the door early — not because I have to be, but because I’m looking forward so much to the day.
So yeah, I still call them “jobs” sometimes. But in my heart, I’m treating them like what they really are: opportunities.
And I’m grateful for every one.
