I was looking through some old photos and this was a picture from a home I helped at many years ago. I was only able to help in this room for a few hours so I never finished, but this is the kind of project I am happy to help tackle. :) Happy Spring Cleaning!

A lot of people are hesitant to have me over to help them because they are embarrassed of their mess. I understand what that feels like, but I always approach peoples‘ messes with a lot of compassion. I tell myself that my house would look just the same if I was in their shoes and there are so many reasons why huge messes get created. One little stressor in life can snowball very quickly and it’s not something to be ashamed about. I don’t think a mess reflects who a person is at all.

Also, if you feel bad making someone else do all the work to fix your huge mess, just know that organizing is absolutely like medicine to me (it gives me exercise, takes my mind off things, helps keep me entertained, helps me feel more orderly and satisfied in my own life, and it makes me feel like my talents are actually doing some good for someone else in the world).

While cleaning for others I have cleaned moldy dishes, regular mold, cat p**p, dog p**p, mouse p**p, human p**p, dead animals, nail clippings, very smelly liquid garbage juice and much more! I‘ve worked in the cleaning crew at an amusement park for 3 summers (lots of mysterious messes), I had a hotel job for a little bit, and I enjoyed helping a hoarder for a few days who had piles to the ceiling and barley any places to walk. I’ve seen quite a lot, so I promise that your mess is probably not as crazy as you think it is.

Some of the only reasons why I would turn down your mess is if the smell is consistently too strong or if there is some sort of major safety or health concern that gloves won’t help with. Otherwise, I really don’t mind doing challenging stuff and getting dirty. I not only love to organize/clean, but it’s something that I really need for my mental health right now so please don’t hesitate to let me in and help you out. 🙏

I did a craft room today! I didn’t finish, but in 4 hours I was able to make a good dent. Very satisfying!

How I’ll organize your space if you send me to your messiest room with no clear directions!:

Step 1: I’ll go through the whole thing pile by pile. I’ll discard obvious trash, make a paper pile, and put like items together. I’ll collect any bags/containers and use them to sort. If I don’t know what certain items are or they don’t have a category yet, then I’ll sort them by size so it will be easy for you to look through later. I’ll label everything with tape and a sharpie.

For a larger room, I’ll do all these steps, but for each smaller area within the space. If you need help finding a small item that you remember was in a certain area, then we should be able to locate it very quickly in the “small” category bag found in that specific area.

Step 2: I’ll do some general light cleaning of the space like vacuuming, dusting, and wiping things down.

Step 3: I’ll go through each category of items with you to see if there is anything you would like to move to another space, sell, donate, or throw away.

Step 4: I’ll ask you what purpose you would like for the space and make a general plan with you for where you would like things to go. We can talk about how your brain works and come up with a system so you can be successful keeping the space clean in the future. For example, if we know that you tend to temporarily bring items from other areas of the house into the space and forget to put them back, then we could create a bin specifically for these items so you can set them aside for later when you have the time/energy to put them away properly. If you want, we can purchase or find new containers and organizers to help make the space look nice.

Step 5: I’ll put everything into a final position with labels. After a few months we can revisit the space together to see if the systems are working for you and we can make any adjustments.

I had an enjoyable time today organizing someone’s closet getting everything into better digestible bites so the owner can more easily sort through what they would like to keep in this space. This took me about an hour and a half to do.

About Danielle:

This past year I spent dozens of hours organizing multiple spaces for a local non-profit for free and I loved it! It was one of the highlights of my year and I really want to keep on organizing (it’s very satisfying and therapeutic for me)! Throughout my life I’ve had experience helping various individuals organize and clean up their spaces. I have cleaned out garages, attics, kitchens, classrooms, basements, closets, and bedrooms. I’ve also helped a handful of people prepare to move and have a little bit of experience with hoarding situations. I consider myself to be somewhat of a minimalist and am a fan of the Marie Kondo method (I won’t pressure you to get rid of your stuff unless you want me to). While I am not currently a professional organizer, I hope to get enough paid hours to become a certified professional in the near future.

Things I Can Help With:

Garages, sheds, porches, basements, walk-in attics, closets, bedrooms, craft rooms, classrooms, cars, kitchens, storage units, etc.

Businesses, garage sale prep, moving prep

Cleaning: sweeping, dusting, cobweb removal, lightly wiping things down

Dump runs: dump cost plus $15 per trip

Thrift Store Donation trips: $10 per trip

Obtaining storage containers: cost of the containers plus $10 per trip

Availability: 8:30-3:00 on Watertown City School District School Days, except Tuesdays

Communities I Serve: Adams, Adams Center, Black River, Brownville, Calcium, Dexter, Glen Park, Hounsfield, LeRay, Pamelia, Rutland, Sackets Harbor, Watertown, and Town of Watertown.

Steps to working with Danielle:
1) Call 315-775-8456 and set up an initial meeting to see if your project is a good fit for Danielle.
2) Initial Meeting: If you’re a good fit, Danielle will give you an estimate for how long the project will take and have you sign an Agreement Form.
3) If you’re comfortable, she will schedule future work days with you and/or begin working.

Is it really “pay what you want?”
Yes! You pay me when the job is done and if you’re not satisfied, then you don’t have to pay anything. I mostly just want to organize even if it’s for free, but if I can earn some money doing it, then I will take whatever people would like to give. My suggested pricing is $25-35 per hour. The only thing I charge for is obtaining storage containers, dump runs, and thrift store drop-offs (see above).

Other Things to Consider: Danielle may reject or back out of a job for harassment, infestations, weather, illness/injury, safety/hazards, smells, unexpected challenges, or pet annoyance. She may need assistance lifting awkward items or items over 50 pounds.
