What is a slammer unit? In the industry a slammer unit is any solid fuel (wood, pellet, coal) burning insert that is pushed into an open fireplace without the proper venting or liner that can safely contain the products of combustion until being safely vented into the atmosphere from the top of the chimney.

Why are they bad? Creosote can build in the firebox and areas of the flue that are inaccessible creating a fire hazard!

Just because it hasn’t been a hazard in the past doesn’t mean that it can’t be in the future!
