Don’t make this mistake if you have faded trim on your vehicle!
I’ve seen this happen more times than you’d think. The customer brings us a vehicle and requests for the trim to be restored back to new.
I ask if they’ve personally tried anything to fix it or took it somewhere else and frequently the answer is either “I used a heat gun” or “I used XYZ brand of dressing.” And the sentence always ends with the words, “but it always comes back.”
The reason is these aren’t permanent fixes. In fact, using a heat gun is damaging it further every time you use it. I know… Tik Tok lied to you. The intense heat is melting your plastic and drying it out every time you use it, meaning it’s going to come back faster and worse every time.
Dressings are cool but they don’t last very long and depending what you’re using, that also might be drying out your plastics in the long term.
What’s my recommended fix? Dyeing your plastic back to black and protecting it with a ceramic coating meant for plastic surfaces.
You could do it yourself, but if you want to ensure you get the best looking results and long lasting shine, this is what we offer in our Trim Restoration Service.
It will always come back on a long enough time horizon however this is going to last years opposed to weeks and it’s not further damaging pieces. Much cheaper than going through the hassle of replacing trim.
