I came across a post today that hit me hard and took me right back to something Mandy and I went through years ago.
When we were pregnant with our first son, she had a miscarriage a few months in.
We woke up one morning to an abnormal amount of blood and rushed to the ER.
At that point in my life, I didn't personally know anyone who had gone through a miscarriage.
I'd heard of them happening to other people, but I couldn't fathom it happening to us.
I was excited to be a dad.
Mandy was excited to be a mom.
We were excited to become parents together.
I'll never forget how the ER doctor delivered the news.
It was matter-of-fact, almost like he was reading off a sports score or talking about the weather.
There was no compassion in his voice, no pause to recognize the life-altering pain he'd just handed us.
I remember sitting there in shock, unable to process that our first child was gone.
It was heartbreaking.
It was lonely.
We went on to have another miscarriage between our first and second child.
Today, we're blessed with four kids, and looking back, I can see God had a plan through all of it.
But in the moment, it felt like nothing but loss and confusion.
When I see someone else walking through that same valley now, it reminds me how isolating it feels.
It also reminds me of this truth.
God has a purpose, even in the pain.
