Two carpet issues here:

1) Seam Separation.
2) De-lamination.

This carpet is VERY old by today's standards. It is 25+ years old and was only professionally cleaned 2 or 3 times in all those years (I know it was my dad's carpet).

Despite the seam separation and the delamination the surface fibers of the carpet ARE NOT worn out. Yes- their appearance has changed- DUE TO POOR MAINTENANCE (HEY now, I haven't always been a professional carpet cleaner). This is just proof that carpet DOES NOT wear out, it "Uglies Out".

De-lamination is the separation of the primary and secondary layers of carpet and happens over long periods of time and heavy use, especially at pivot points such as: doorways, rolling chairs, etc.
