This project started as a water damage call — but getting a property dry was only the beginning.

Once the affected areas were opened up, the extent of the damage became clear. Damaged materials had to be removed, the affected areas properly remediated, and then the space had to be put back together.

For this project, our team handled the process from start to finish:

• Water mitigation
• Containment and controlled drying
• Removal of affected materials
• Cleaning and remediation
• Drywall installation and finishing
• Reconstruction and restoration of the affected areas

The goal isn’t just to make water disappear. It’s to address what happened behind the walls, properly restore the affected areas, and get the space back to where it belongs.

That’s one of the advantages of being able to handle both mitigation AND reconstruction — our customer didn’t have to find another contractor halfway through the process.

💧 Water Damage? The Clock Starts Ticking.

The first 24–48 hours after water damage matter.

When water gets into your home or business, what you can see is often only part of the problem.

Moisture can travel behind baseboards, into drywall, beneath flooring, and into insulation — even when the surface starts to look or feel dry.

That’s why simply cleaning up the visible water isn’t always enough.

After water damage, the goal is to stop the source, identify hidden moisture, remove affected materials when necessary, and begin proper drying as soon as possible.

The sooner hidden moisture is found and addressed, the better chance you have of preventing additional damage — and the conditions that can allow microbial growth to develop.

Your AC does more than keep your house cool — it also plays an important role in controlling indoor humidity.

When humidity stays too high, moisture can collect on or within building materials and create conditions that are more favorable for microbial growth.

That’s why a home can sometimes have moisture-related problems even when there’s never been a major leak or flood.

Your home can look perfectly normal and still have an indoor air quality issue.

That’s where VOC testing comes in.

VOCs — or volatile organic compounds — are chemicals that can be released into the air from many common materials and products inside a home.

Paints, adhesives, flooring, cleaning products, fragrances, furniture, building materials and other household products can all be potential sources.

And unlike mold growth or water damage, there may not be anything obvious to see.

VOC testing can help identify compounds present in the indoor air and provide actual data to work with when someone is concerned about their home’s air quality.

Sometimes the best “after” photo looks like nothing ever happened. 👏

This commercial project started with signs of water damage and affected building materials — but getting to the problem was only part of the job.

Before remediation began, we protected the surrounding floors and work areas, established containment, and used HEPA air filtration to help control dust and airborne particles during the work.

Affected materials were selectively removed, the necessary areas were addressed, and then the space was repaired and put back together.

And when the work was finished?

The containment came down.
The floor protection came up.
The equipment went away.
And the hallway went back to looking like a hallway.

That’s the goal.

Do the work correctly, protect the areas around it, and leave the property ready to get back to business.

💧 It feels dry… but is it?

After a leak or water damage, a wall can look and feel perfectly dry on the surface while still holding elevated moisture.

That’s where a moisture meter comes in.

This little tool helps us check the moisture content of building materials and identify areas that may need further investigation or drying — especially when there’s nothing obvious to see from the outside.

Why does that matter?

Because moisture left behind walls, baseboards, flooring, and other materials can create bigger problems later.

You can’t always see water damage. Sometimes you have to measure it.

Mold isn’t always where you can see it. 👀🦠

Sometimes the first clue is a smell that won’t go away. Sometimes it’s discoloration that keeps coming back. And sometimes, it’s simply knowing your home has had a moisture problem in the past.

None of those things automatically mean you have mold — but they’re worth paying attention to.

The biggest takeaway? Don’t guess. Find out what’s actually going on.

A visual inspection, moisture readings, and when appropriate, mold testing can help determine whether there’s a problem and what the next step should be.

👃 A musty smell is trying to tell you something.

You know that smell — you walk into a room and something just smells… off.

Even when you don’t see anything unusual, a persistent musty odor can be a clue that excess moisture is hiding somewhere it shouldn’t be.

Behind walls. Under flooring. Around an AC system. Or in another area you may not be able to see.

Does a musty smell automatically mean mold? No. But covering it up with air fresheners doesn’t tell you what’s causing it either.

The goal is to figure out why it’s there.

Moisture readings, a visual inspection, and when appropriate, mold or indoor air quality testing can help give you answers instead of guesses.

Apparently mold likes a good view. 😅

This one definitely wasn’t at eye level!

But the height wasn’t the most important part of this project. The bigger question was why the growth was happening in the first place.

Poor air circulation between the attic space and the indoor living area was creating conditions that allowed microbial growth to develop along portions of this beautiful vaulted wood ceiling.

So this project wasn’t just about getting scaffolding up there and cleaning what we could see. It was about understanding what was contributing to the problem, addressing the affected areas, and helping correct the conditions behind it.

Because when it comes to mold, what you see is only part of the story.

🏠 Homeowner Question of the Week

“Can mold in my home be making me feel sick?”

This is one we hear pretty often — especially when someone says they just don’t feel quite right at home.

Mold exposure can be associated with things like irritated eyes, stuffy nose, coughing, wheezing, or skin irritation, especially for people who are sensitive or allergic to mold.

But here’s the important part:

Those symptoms don’t automatically mean you have a mold problem. And not having symptoms doesn’t mean you don’t.

That’s one reason we don’t like to guess.

Mold can be hidden behind walls, under flooring, around HVAC systems, or in other areas you may never see. And sometimes that “musty” smell people associate with mold can have another source entirely.

🧪 Testing gives us actual information to work with.

Air samples can help determine whether mold spores are elevated indoors and what types are present, rather than relying on what something looks like, smells like, or how someone feels.
