Many homeowners still believe plumbing myths that end up costing them money or damaging their systems. One of the biggest is the idea that “flushable” wipes are actually safe to flush. Even though the packaging says they break down, they don’t disintegrate like toilet paper and often become the starting point of major clogs. Another common myth is that running hot water while using the garbage disposal helps grease go down smoothly. In reality, hot water only melts grease long enough for it to travel deeper into the pipes, where it cools, hardens, and creates blockages.
There’s also the belief that chemical drain cleaners are a quick, harmless fix. They may clear a clog temporarily, but the harsh chemicals can eat away at pipes, destroy seals, and create bigger problems over time.
Last one: many people assume small leaks are no big deal. Even a slow drip can waste gallons of water and pressure issues or failing fixtures Understanding these myths helps homeowners protect their plumbing, avoid unnecessary repairs, and keep their systems running efficiently.
