Cleanings help keep moss, mold, algae and other organisms from growing on a headstone. Without treatment those factors can cause pitting on the stone allowing water to create stress fractures causing it to crack and split.

🇺🇸 Every year for Memorial Day will we be honoring a local veteran with a free cleaning. This year we chose SFC Barry Jarvis. We cleaned the headstone and made custom flowers to honor this American hero who put his life on the line to serve and honor our country, who gave the ultimate sacrifice for our freedom🎖

JOHN O. JENKINS
BORN NOVEMBER 14, 1896
SON OF JOHN C. AND MILLIE JENKINS

A GRADUATE OF ROCKPORT HIGH SCHOOL IN 1918. HE JOINED THE REGULAR ARMY MAY 15, 1917. ON SEPTEMBER 10, 1917 HE WAS SENT OVERSEAS AND ASSIGNED TO COMPANY E. ENGINEERING CORPS 2ND DIVISION.

JUNE 3 1918 HE WAS KILLED AT BELLEAU WOOD, FRANCE. BEING THE FIRST SPENCER COUNTY BOY TO DIE IN ACTION IN WORLD WAR 1, HIS BODY WAS GIVEN SPECIAL MILITARY HONORS.
Company E, 2nd Battalion, 2nd Engineers, 2nd Division, A.E.F

AUGUST 10, 1920. THE ROCKPORT AMERICAN LEGION JENKINS POST #254 WAS NAMED AS A MEMORIAL TO HIM.
