Snow on the ground, dog in the truck, and another Saturday rolling in.

Emerald and I are headed out to take care of some pools and spas. Beautiful day in the mountains, good music on, and good work to do.

That’s how Saturdays are supposed to feel.

Own a rental property in Steamboat but live out of state? We get it – worrying about your spa from hundreds of miles away isn't fun.

Nothing ruins a guest's mountain getaway like a broken spa in February. And nothing hurts your reviews (or your peace of mind) like getting that panicked text from renters when something goes wrong.

That's exactly why we work with so many Torian Plum, Parkman, and other vacation rental properties. We handle the weekly maintenance, keep an eye on things between guests, and fix problems before they become guest complaints.

You focus on your business. We'll make sure your spa is always guest-ready, whether it's peak ski season or the middle of summer.

One less thing to worry about from wherever you call home.

Here in Steamboat, we've got some incredible handymen who can fix just about anything around your house. But when it comes to your spa, there's a difference between someone who's handy and someone who understands water chemistry, circulation systems, and how altitude affects everything.

Your spa isn't just hot water in a tub. It's a complex system with pumps, heaters, chemical feeders, and controls that all need to work together. A loose board? Call your handyman. But when your pH is off, your heater's acting up, or your AutoCover isn't sealing right, that's when you need someone who lives and breathes this stuff every day.

We're not knocking the DIY spirit – Alex started this business because he loves figuring out how things work. We're just saying some jobs need the right tools and know-how.

**Why we check your heater every single visit**

Your spa heater works hard up here in Steamboat, especially when it's 15 below and you want that water at 104°.

We've seen too many heaters fail right when you need them most – usually the week your family's visiting for ski season. A quick check during regular service catches the warning signs: odd sounds, temperature fluctuations, or error codes that pop up randomly.

Most heater problems start small. Maybe the pressure switch is getting finicky, or there's a tiny leak developing. Catch it early? Usually a simple fix. Wait until it completely dies on the coldest day of February? That's when you're looking at emergency service calls and guests who aren't happy about a cold spa.

It takes us two minutes to check, but it saves you from those "why didn't anyone tell me?" moments later.

Better to spot trouble before trouble spots you.

Nothing ruins Christmas morning like hitting the AutoCover button and... nothing happens.

We got the call around 9 AM - family gathering at the house, hot tub plans for the afternoon, and the cover decided to take a holiday too. Frozen motor, of course. Twenty below will do that.

Had the tools in the truck and got it running in about an hour. The kids were back to their hot chocolate and spa plans by noon.

Here's the thing with AutoCovers - they're great until they're not. And they always pick the worst possible moment to act up. Regular maintenance keeps most of these Christmas morning disasters from happening.

If your cover's been sluggish lately or making weird noises, don't wait for it to pick your next family gathering to quit on you.

Spring's sneaking up on us here in Steamboat, and if your spa has been working overtime all winter (like most of ours have), it's time for a little TLC before things get busy again.

Here's what we're checking on spas this time of year: water chemistry needs rebalancing after months of heavy use, filters are usually due for a deep clean or replacement, and those AutoCovers have taken a beating from snow and wind. We're also looking at pumps and heaters that have been running hard since December.

The good news? A little attention now means your spa keeps running smoothly through mud season and into summer. Nobody wants their relaxation time interrupted by a breakdown when the weather finally turns nice.

If it's been a while since your last service, now's the perfect time to get back on schedule.

Property managers have their hands full – especially here in Steamboat with so many vacation rentals and condos. They're juggling keys, maintenance calls, guest issues, and a dozen other things every day.

But here's the thing: your spa's water chemistry isn't something you want to guess at. We've seen too many situations where good intentions led to expensive equipment damage or frustrated guests complaining about cloudy, smelly water.

Property managers do an incredible job keeping properties running smoothly. That's exactly why the smart ones partner with us for spa maintenance – one less thing on their plate, and they know it's handled right.

Your PM focuses on what they do best. We focus on what we do best. Everyone wins, especially your guests who want that perfect soak after a day on the mountain.

When those Steamboat temps drop below freezing (and they will), your spa's working overtime to stay warm and ready for you.

Here's what we're seeing this week: frozen skimmers, chemical imbalances from heavy usage, and AutoCovers struggling with ice buildup. Nothing we can't handle, but it's a reminder that winter maintenance isn't the same as summer.

Your spa heater and circulation system need to run more in freezing weather - that's normal. But if you're noticing cloudy water or your cover feels heavier than usual, don't wait. Winter issues get expensive fast when ignored.

We've been making extra rounds this week checking on our regular clients. The mountain weather keeps us busy, but that's what we're here for.

Stay warm out there, Steamboat. And remember - a well-maintained spa is your reward after a long day on the slopes.

**Think your Pentair IntelliCenter or Hayward OmniLogic means you can set it and forget it? Not quite.**

Those systems are fantastic – they'll keep your spa running and maintain basic chemistry. But they can't catch everything that goes wrong.

We've seen automated systems happily running while the spa itself had circulation issues, dirty filters, or calcium buildup that the sensors couldn't detect. The automation keeps doing its job, but your water quality slowly goes downhill.

Plus, Colorado's mineral-heavy water and our temperature swings throw curveballs that even the smartest systems can't always handle alone.

Your automated system is like having a great assistant – but you still need someone checking in regularly to make sure everything's actually working right.

That's where we come in. We work with your automation, not against it.

Spring's around the corner here in Steamboat, and if your spa has been working overtime all winter (we don't blame you), it's time for a quick check-up.

After months of heavy use, here's what we're seeing at properties around town: filters that are absolutely done for, water that's gotten a bit tired, and covers that have taken a beating from our snow and wind.

Before you shift into spring mode, take a look at your water clarity and give that filter a good rinse. If it's been more than a few months since your last professional service, now's the time – especially with warmer weather changing how your chemicals behave.

We're already seeing the seasonal transition at our regular stops. Your spa's been your winter sanctuary, so let's make sure it stays that way through spring.

Questions about what to look for? Drop us a message.

Testing out some new tech over here at Emerald Pools and Spas!

We're trying out an automated posting system to keep you all updated on what we're up to around Steamboat. Don't worry - it's still me (Alex) behind the posts, just with a little help staying consistent when I'm out servicing spas all over town.

Speaking of which, we've been crazy busy this week getting everyone's hot tubs ready for the cold snap coming in. Nothing beats soaking in a perfectly balanced spa when it's snowing outside.

If this post makes it through without any weird glitches, I'll call it a win. Technology and I don't always see eye to eye, but hey - if it helps me keep you folks in the loop while I'm elbow-deep in pool filters, I'm all for it.

How's everyone's week going?
