Howdy! This is Walt. He’s our Chief Chemistry Officer. He’s very knowledgeable about the particular ratios and percentages of detergent 🧼we need for various surfaces. For example, we got our ass handed to us on a recent job because the sodium hypochlorite mix wasn’t strong enough to pe*****te the very porous limestone 🗿walls. So, Walt cooked up a new batch for us to use on our return trip this week.

Additionally, Walt helps us know when to use oxalic acid to remove rust stains or give old wood some new color. We don’t play with muriatic acid much as Walt says it’s potent enough to dissolve a dirt bike 🏍️ let alone take certain stains out.

Originally from Albuquerque 🌄, Walt used to teach high school. His favorite color is blue, 🧊and he loves the local fried chicken 🍗 places back home. When he’s not helping mix chemicals 🧪at work he might be found camping in his RV 🚐 We’re glad to have him on the crew.

Happy Texas Independence Day! I love bluebonnets, and I love being Texan! Here are a few random facts related to Texas.

1) In 1836, Sam Houston became the first president of the Republic of Texas. My paternal grandmother’s maiden name was Houston. Yep. We’re related. Does that make us Texas royalty? Only in an altered state of mind.

2) There is one remaining International boundary marker for the Republic of Texas on FM-31 at the Louisiana border near Carthage. See second pic in post.

3) There was no pressure washing at the Battle of the Alamo. The first original steam pressure washer was not invented until 1926 by Frank W. Ofeldt II, in Western Pennsylvania.

4) As an independent nation, Texas held Legations in Washington, D.C. Paris, France and London, England from 1836 - 1845. Plagues still remain at the former Texas Embassies in Europe. (Pic 3)

4) Texas gained over 470,000 new residents since July 2021, pushing it over the 30 million resident mark. Data is unavailable showing what percentage of these people are a$$h@!3s.

Howdy! This is Dexter. He is our Plastic Protection Technician. As part of our standard operating procedure at Spicewood Surface Cleaning and Pressure Washing we make sure that any vegetation, electrical outlets, stained doors, etc are protected properly prior to treating the surrounding surfaces with our cleaning mix. Most of the time we will wrap plastic around these and secure with painters tape.

Dexter brings a lot of knowledge and is very good at using plastic to prevent any kind of unwanted softwash overspray and splatter. He lived in Miami for a while and finished at the top of his class in medical school.

Six Things That Homeowners Should Know About Power Washing/Pressure Washing 🧼💦🔫

1. A POWER WASHER IS MUCH STRONGER THAN A GARDEN HOSE. Contrary to what some may believe, holding your thumb over the end of the garden hose does not give the same effect. You’ll realize this when you blow a hole in your thumb on accident with the pressure washer. 👍🩹

2. YOU CANNOT POWER WASH EVERYTHING. Some things will just get destroyed. It is fun to tear things up. Just not your nice things that you want cleaned. It helps to have an educated professional who knows what pressures and detergent percentages are appropriate for all your different surfaces. 🤓📕

3. YOU CAN EASILY REMOVE MOLD, MILDEW, GRIME AND DIRT WITH A POWER WASHER. This seems like common sense. We are big advocates of common sense, as you’ll see on our website. Take it a step further with an appropriate mix of detergent to kill organic matter at the source vs just blowing it off the surface. 🧼🫧

4. PRESSURE WASHING EACH YEAR WILL EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR PAINT. It might get you another 3 years, and it’s less expensive to power wash than repaint. 🎨

5. PRESSURE WASHING YOUR HOUSE REGULARLY WILL PROTECT THE HEALTH OF YOUR FAMILY. Less mold, algae, dirt, and pollen are known to be better for health. And, I’m no Dr. Red Duke. 🏥⚕️

6. IT CAN HELP YOU MAXIMIZE THE SALE PRICE ON YOUR HOUSE. Dirty houses and filthy driveways make for ugly . Most people bathe and do makeup before pics. Why not do the same for one of your biggest investments? 🏡📸💸

What in the world 🌎 is the actual difference?

Pressure washing involves using powerful hoses that blast surfaces clean with pressurized water jets to thoroughly clean a dirty surface.

The main difference between power washing and pressure washing 🔫💦🧼is the jet wash in power washing uses heated water. Pressure washing relies solely on the pressure.

Soft washing uses the same machine as pressure washing but the PSI (pounds per square inch of pressure) is adjusted to 500 PSI or less. The tip of the pressure washer is also replaced with one that widens the spray which drops the pressure.

Soft washing relies more on specialised cleaners 🫧🧼during the process of cleaning. They combine a light pressure with a cleaning product to remove any dirt, mold or algae. 🤢
