It’s BBQ and outdoor party season! Make sure your septic system is safe for your family!

Spring is here — have you had your routine septic system inspection yet? 🌱

After a long winter of rain, wind, and freezing temps, your septic system may have taken a hit. Fallen branches, shifting soil, or flooding can all cause hidden issues.

One of the most important things to check? Your septic lid.

Lids can crack, weaken, or shift during winter — creating a serious safety hazard for kids, pets, and anyone walking in your yard.

✔️ Make sure your lid is secure and properly seated
✔️ Avoid driving or placing heavy objects over it
✔️ Consider upgrading older lids for added safety

Routine inspections catch small problems before they turn into costly repairs — and more importantly, help keep your family safe.

Not sure where your system is or what condition it’s in?
Above Grade Septic is here to help.

👉 Message us or call today to schedule your spring inspection!

With the recent wind storms we have experienced here in the Puget Sound region, many homes have lost power and are still without. Here are some things to remember about your septic system if there is a power failure at your home.

*If your septic system has a pump, that pump will not function without power so conserve on water used inside the home.
* Flush only when necessary
* Take very short showers
* Take laundry to the laundromat

* The alarm on your septic system might turn on after power is restored. If the alarm does turn on, silence the alarm but do not turn the power off to the septic system. Refrain from water usage so your system can catch up and evacuate the water that was used during the outage. This may take some time, be patient.

If the alarm does not clear itself within 24 hours and you have been conservative on water usage, call your septic service maintenance provider.

*Included are pictures of some of the most common alarm panels we see. To silence alarms, there will either be a button or a toggle switch.

*It is unfortunate yet common for pumps and electrical components to fail after power outages or power surges. If your alarm sounds and does not clear itself we highly recommend having your service provider out to evaluate the system. This could be crucial to preventing a backup in your home as well as more extensive damage to your system.

!!!! Do NOT enter the septic tank or electrical junction boxes, these areas can cause serious injury and pose a threat to your health !!!!

Please reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns regarding your septic system.

COVID-19 UPDATE

In response to the ongoing health emergency in our state and in light of the “Stay Home-Stay Healthy” order from Governor Inslee, we at Above Grade Septic have modified our practices to maintain healthy standards for ourselves and our customers.

A proper functioning septic system is essential to the health and safety of your family as well as the environment. Snohomish County has given us limits on the type of work that can be performed limited to “repairs in which an immediate public health hazard is present.” Elaborating on the previous statement, this includes any surfacing effluent or sewage, alarms that have been activated on the septic system, pumps or floats that have malfunctioned, filters that have clogged and are causing sewage to backup in your home, and lids covering septic components that are not properly secured.

If you have any questions, concerns, or need our services please contact our office, we are working and available to assist you during this crisis.

Stay safe and healthy!

There have been many changes in most everyone’s lives and we suspect there will be more in the future. Being home with your entire family for most of the day can bring a whole new set of challenges, not only for each of you in your family, but the appliances in your home will experience higher than normal use with your added time at home. The septic system for your home is usually the most expensive appliance connected to your home and it does need maintenance.

There are many different types of septic systems, some are more complex than others and require more frequent attention. If you are uncertain of the type of septic system your home has, we are available to help you identify it.
The most simple type of septic system is a basic gravity system, these may or may not have a filter that needs regular cleaning but they do need the tank pumped.
There are more complex systems some with pumps, floats, timers, alarms, air compressors, ultraviolet lights, extensive filter systems, and pipes that need to be cleaned along with pumping of the tanks.
Each septic system is designed specifically for the home as well as the soil type that the home is built on. When a situation changes dramatically inside of the home the septic system may need more frequent attention. Regardless of common misconception, all septic tanks need to be pumped on a regular basis. It is very important to do preventative maintenance on your septic system to help ensure the longevity of it.

*Alarms on septic systems can turn on with the added water usage from the home occupants, but it can also indicate a more significant problem within the septic system. Call us and we can discuss what the circumstances were in the home previous to the alarm activating and we can help you determine if it should be investigated further. Do not enter the tanks of the septic system!

*Make sure your tanks are pumped often enough to match your household usage. Call us if you have questions regarding pumping, we can connect you with pumping providers.

*Have your system inspected to make sure it is functioning properly as well as having the lids inspected to verify they are in good condition and secured adequately, this will help ensure the safety of your family. Lids that are broken or not secured properly can have devastating results on a families safety. Once again, never enter the tanks of the septic system!

Please call us if you have any concerns or questions regarding your septic system.
