A weekly cleaning schedule that actually works (and takes the guesswork out of your week)

Most people clean reactively, grabbing a sponge when things look bad. A day-by-day system means your home never gets to "bad" in the first place, and each session stays short because you're only tackling one area at a time.

Step 1: Monday, bedroom day. Change your sheets, dust and polish furniture, clean mirrors, wipe down the fan, and sweep or vacuum the floors. Starting the week with a fresh bedroom sets a calm tone for everything else.

Step 2: Tuesday, bathroom day. Scrub the shower and toilet, clean the sink and counter, sweep and mop the floors, and wipe the mirror. Bathrooms accumulate bacteria fast, so a dedicated weekly reset keeps the space genuinely sanitary, not just surface-clean.

Step 3: Wednesday, kitchen day. Clean out the refrigerator, wipe counters, clean the table and chairs, sweep and mop floors, and take out the trash. Your fridge gets attention here, which most people skip until something smells.

Step 4: Thursday, living room day. Dust and polish furniture, clean the TV screen, freshen fabrics with a fabric spray like Febreze, and vacuum or sweep floors. Two sentences is all this day needs because the tasks are lighter than the rest of the week.

Step 5: Friday, outside. Clean out your car, straighten up the garage, sweep off the steps, and handle any yard work. Keeping the outside tidy means dirt stays out there instead of traveling in on shoes and bags.

Step 6: Saturday, laundry day. Pre-treat any stains before washing, iron clothing, wash all bedding and towels, fold and put everything away, and hand-wash any delicates. Step 1: Remove visible dirt
Take out any food pieces, hair, or debris around the drain.

Step 2: Add baking soda
Pour ½ cup baking soda directly into the drain.

Step 3: Add dish soap
Pour a small squeeze of Dawn dish soap into the drain to break grease.

Step 4: Pour vinegar
Slowly pour 1 cup white vinegar into the drain.
It will bubble and fizz — that helps loosen grime and odor.

Step 5: Let it sit
Leave it for 15–20 minutes.

Step 6: Flush with hot water
Pour boiling hot water slowly into the drain to wash everything down.

Step 7: Scrub around the drain opening
Use an old toothbrush or small brush to clean around the metal drain rim.

Step 8: Final rinse
Run warm water for 1–2 minutes.

Result: cleaner drain, less smell, less grease build-up.
